Sharna Burgess Reveals Reason Behind Her Shocking ‘DWTS’ Exit

Sharna Burgess from Dancing With The Stars, ABC

DWTS Season 27 champion Sharna Burgess just announced she was stepping away from the show this year. This news comes as quite a surprise to many fans, since insider Krystin Burtt previously confirmed that Sharna was on the official cast list. On top of that, Sharna also previously confirmed she would like to return this fall if her doctors cleared her to compete.

So why did the dancer opt to sit the season out instead?

Sharna Burgess had a very difficult decision to make

Sharna Burgess gave birth to her son, Zane Walker Green, at the end of June. Many of her followers weren’t sure that she would be strong enough to compete in the fall, but the Australian dancer was determined to return.

The good news is that Sharna is indeed healthy and strong. She has been cleared to compete and that’s not why she’s choosing to sit out. The 37-year-old shared the real reason behind her departure on her Instagram stories.

More than anything, Sharna loves her Dancing With The Stars family. However, she admitted that she just wasn’t ready to be away from her newborn son for so long.

“I have some news that I have to tell you guys because I keep getting so many DMs about it,” the new mother said in her online video. “After long conversations and lots of thinking and really trying to sit with what was right, and many conversations with Deena Katz, who’s our casting director but also like a second mom to me, I made the really hard decision to not do this season of Dancing With The Stars. There’s been a list that has been released saying that I would be a pro and I won’t be.”

Sharna went on to say that she’s experiencing impeccable health and will still participate in some shape or form. She added that she was on her way to the gym as she recorded the video. But her son always comes first. DWTS requires dancers to spend many hours in the rehearsal room every day. It definitely would be quite a time commitment.

Other pros put their familial duties first

Dancing With The Stars fans will definitely miss Sharna this year, but understand her choice. And she isn’t the only pro dancer to put her family above the job this year.

Season 25 champion Lindsay Arnold also revealed she chose not to return this year. Her daughter Sage will be two years old in November and Lindsay admitted the time commitment is a struggle for her too. Like Sharna, Lindsay hopes to return to DWTS someday. But that won’t happen in Season 31.

Are you sad to hear that Sharna and Lindsay won’t return this year? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments and stay tuned for more DWTS news.
