Netflix’s Stranger Things has enjoyed a huge success since its premiere on the streaming platform. Now that it is done with Season 4 amassing a fan following, the show’s creators chimed in on what’s in store for Season 5. This season is also slated to be the show’s final one, as confirmed by the makers. Given the series’ history of introducing new characters with each new season, fans wondered if Season 5 would follow suit.
Stranger Things Creators Resisting Introduction Of New Characters
However, the show’s creators Ross & Matt Duffer, shared details from the upcoming season while revealing if there is any possibility of introducing a new character. Stranger Things premiered in 2016, and the Duffer brothers are trying their best to wrap up the final season with the OG characters introduced in Season 1.
In a conversation with Indiewire, Matt Duffer revealed, “We’re doing our best to resist [adding new characters] for Season 5. We’re trying not to do that so we can focus on the OG characters, I guess.”
Ross Duffer chimed in on the possibility of introducing new characters as he said, “Bringing new characters into the story has to give it the engine that is needed, though it can be nerve-wracking. Whenever we introduce a new character, we want to make sure that they’re going to be an integral part of the narrative.”
“We’ve got a great cast of characters here and actors, and any moment we’re spending with a new character, we’re taking time away from one of the other actors,” Ross continued.
Duffer Brothers Confirm Season 5 Revolves Around OG Characters
Stranger Things Season 1 introduced the OG characters that include:
- Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers
- Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven
- Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler
- David Harbour as Jim Hopper
- Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson
- Noah Schnapp as Will Byers
- Mathew Modine as Dr. Martin Brenner
- Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler
- Charlie Heaton as Jonathan
- Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler
- Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair
- Joe Keery as Steve Harrington
Following Season 1’s success, Joe Keery and Noah Schnapp were bumped to series regulars in Season 2. The second season also introduced other important characters like Sadie Sink & Dacre Montgomery. Priah Ferguson and Maya Hawke joined the Stranger Things cast in later seasons.
Joseph Quinn Creates A Mark In Stranger Things Season 4
Although the series has introduced several new characters throughout its run, Joseph Quinn had a remarkable stint in Season 4. As revealed by the Duffers, the story will now come to a full circle with Noah Schnapp as the central character, similar to what happened in Season 1. The next season will build a strong storyline around Will Byers and end the chapter right where it started.
Now, fans might have to wait at least a year for the final season to premiere on Netflix. With the script writing already in progress, fans can expect Season 5 to premiere by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. Although it is a long time to wait for something so exciting, good things do take time!
