Digimon has been making a huge comeback in recent years. There are a number of reasons for that. But the primary things to thank are the number of quality video game titles we’ve gotten and the original Adventure resurgence anime. In recent times, we’ve gotten a number of new seasons exploring the grown-up lives of the kids and Digimon from the original season. Fans have been wondering for some time if we’d ever be revisiting Digimon Adventure 02 as well. The answer is finally here.
The Return Of Digimon Adventure 02
Digimon Adventure 02 is officially getting a follow-up in the form of a movie. The name is Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning. Similar to the original follow-up, this will follow the DigiDestined from the beloved series at an older age. After the recent announcement live stream, fans got a piece of artwork showcasing the grown looks of the main characters. The Digimon look pretty much the same, naturally, but the characters have obviously gone through a lot of progressions since we last saw them.
Yet, it’s not just the fictional characters making a return. The vast majority of the original cast and crew are returning as well. From the director and writer to the entire voice-acting cast. It’s a massive reunion for the first time since the end of the original series way back in 2001. Over two decades later.
Digimon has been going in a darker direction lately with both its new anime Ghost Game and the newest video game Survive. Both have elements of horror and reflect how the creatures can really damage humans in a way similar franchises like Pokemon have always failed to. It’s possible that Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning will become more adult alongside its cast. Or maybe it’ll be a return to form for the franchise that takes on a much lighter tone.
More Digidestined Than Ever
Alongside the resurgence of the original Digimon Adventure anime, there’s more Digimon to be seen. The newest entry to the Digimon anime franchise is Digimon Ghost Game. It sadly hasn’t gotten an English dub yet, and some theorize that it never will. It is undoubtedly the darkest series since Digimon Tamers. So the lack of an English dub may be due to it being thought of as “too dark” for American children. Regardless, every episode thus far is out on Crunchyroll with English subtitles.
