‘Tokyo Mew Mew’ Reboot Hits Screens: What To Expect
Anime with a magic girl theme mostly enjoys massive popularity with a separate fan base. Given the unique premise, fans always look for more in the same genre. Popular anime manga Tokyo Mew Mew flaunted a higher rank on the popularity scale and set the bar too high for other manga anime shows. It has been almost two decades since the series aired, and fans have been craving more.
Tokyo Mew Mew Reboot Now Back After Two Decades
But, there is good news for Tokyo Mew Mew fans. In the age where remakes & reboots have been massively successful, Tokyo Mew Mew hits the screen with its very own reboot.

While the latest season of the Winx Club was a disaster with new characters and unfamiliar faces, Tokyo Mew Mew New doesn’t repeat the same mistakes. As per CBR.com, it does have noticeable changes as compared to the original anime. But whether or not these changes fare well amid the audience is something to look forward to.
Produced by Studio Pierrot, the original premiered in 2000, which is almost 2 decades ago. However, Studio Graphinica has now taken charge of the reboot by offering more or less a similar core plot. The character from the original anime, although the same, are now presented with upgraded costume designs & visuals.
Tokyo Mew Mew New Retains Original Characters
In the original, the characters looked like they were from middle school, but in the reboot, they now look more like high school students. This definitely is an applaudable upgrade in Tokyo Mew Mew New. For example, Masaya Aoyama’s appearance is gently tweaked, but it isn’t anything too drastic. His new look is absolutely fine, making him seem more assertive. In the original, he came across as someone shy.

Another major character change comes as Ryo Shirogame is now a real researcher. As compared to the original character, he now appears less steampunk and more reliable. Other characters, including Lettuce, Mint Pudding, Keiichira, and Quiche, have already appeared in the latest episodes. The rest of the gang pretty much follows in their predecessor’s footsteps.
Reboot Anime Brings In A Fast-Paced Storyline
Talking about the plot line of the reboot, unlike the characters, it has undergone serious changes. While the original took its time to establish the characters in the story, the reboot has already introduced most of the main cast in just 3 episodes. It seems like the reboot is in a hurry. Regardless, the core plot stays the same as aliens attempt to take over the planet by corrupting animals.

Although Tokyo Mew Mew New seems a bit fast-paced for fans of the original anime, it is safe to say it isn’t a complete mishap. However, given the plot changes, if the anime introduces too many depressing and dark stories, it might not bode well with the fans.
For fans who wish to watch Tokyo Mew Mew New, it is now available on Crunchyroll. Are you excited to binge on Tokyo Mew Mew New? Do you think it is better than the original? Share your thoughts in the comments!
