‘My 600-Lb. Life:’ Is Fear Of Shocking Their System Real?
My 600-Lb. Life viewers know that going on the show is not an easy decision to make. Participants have to put their personal lives on public display for viewers to see. And sometimes that means quite literally bearing it all.
Adjusting to the new diet and lifestyle can be pretty challenging, but some fans online noticed that many of the participants use similar excuses. What exactly do they mean about getting a “shock to the system?”
My 600-Lb. Life guests have to make dramatic changes to their lifestyles
Over the years, fans have seen varying degrees of success on My 600-Lb. Life. But in the beginning, most patients have a really difficult time with the dramatic changes. Dr. Now requires his patients to really restrict their diets. For some, the process is too much to handle.
Some guests make excuses and don’t see any real progress. Others tend to buckle down and give it their all. But what exactly do they mean when they talk about the diet “shocking their system?” This is a question that fans recently debated online.
“I hear so many patients on the show say they’re worried to go all-in with the diet because it might ‘shock their system,'” one Redditor asked. “What does this even mean? What do they think is going to happen, exactly? And where do so many people get this idea from?”
Many other Redditors chimed in, but most seemed to have similar thoughts on the issue.
“Any major change like that will bring about a level of discomfort,” added another user. “Anybody who has quit any addictive substance including sugar knows that you really do go through withdrawal symptoms and it is painful and extremely unpleasant. I suspect that maybe what some of them are referring to, because if you wean off rather than quit cold turkey, the shock is less.”
Many of the patients on My 600-Lb. Life are addicted to food. Just like any other addiction, it’s something they will have to get used to living without. It’s a difficult process, but many former guests go on to lead happier healthier lives.
When will Season 11 come to TLC?
Ever since the show’s 10th season came to an end, My 600-Lb. Life fans have been dying to learn more about Season 11. Is it filming? Will TLC ever make any official announcements about the show’s future?
Right now, there aren’t any concrete answers. But Season 10 guest Lucas Higdon said he did see film crews at Dr. Now’s office when he went in for his last checkup. He didn’t specifically say what the crews were filming, but fans believe it’s either Season 11 or possibly an episode of Where Are They Now.
Either way, fans would just love to have new content.
