Jen Shah Defrauded Multiple People In Scheme, Faces 14yrs In Prison
Jen Shah defrauded multiple people in her alleged scheme. She could face 14 years in prison. On Monday, July 11, Jen pleaded guilty to fraud a week before the trial. She will return to court next week for her ongoing trial for her telemarketing business.
Jen amassed millions from her successful businesses. She was also the woman at the center of the alleged scheme. The fallen Bravo star appeared in court for an unscheduled court hearing. She changed her original plea to guilty for one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
RHOSLC star speaks out in court
Jen Shah looked apologetic while making her guilty plea. She spoke in front of a New York judge in court on Monday morning. The former reality star admitted she “knew it was wrong, many people were harmed and I’m so sorry.” Jen then revealed that she “agreed with others to commit wire fraud” and “knew it misled” victims.
The disgraced entrepreneur said she knew what she was doing was illegal and wrong. Per The Sun, Jen Shah could face up to 14 years in prison along with restitution of $9.5 million. It’s a change from her original sentencing of 30 years in prison for wire fraud and an additional 20 years for money laundering, per In Touch Weekly.
The court scheduled her sentencing for November 28. The trial continues on Monday, July 18. Jen Shah’s legal team released a statement following her guilty plea.
“Ms. Shah is a good woman who crossed a line. She accepts full responsibility for her actions and deeply apologizes to all who have been harmed. Ms. Shan is also sorry for disappointing her husband, children, family, friends, and supporters. Jen pled guilty because she wants to pay her debt to society and put this ordeal behind her and her family.”
Inside Jen Shah’s disturbing scheme
Jen Shah was accused of defrauding hundreds of elderly people in the U.S. She was responsible for the nationwide telemarketing scheme in direct relation to her business. In March 2021, Jen and her assistant Stuart Smith were charged. At the time, the RHOSLC star pleaded not guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The Sun obtained the court documents which reveal that Jen Shah must forfeit the evidence before next week’s trial. The prosecutors sent a letter to the judge claiming they reached out to her legal team, requesting the evidence to be shown three times during the trial. Earlier this year, Jen’s legal time claimed in their own letter that they have “nothing further to provide.”
Jen Shah and her assistant Stuart took part in a business opportunity where they sold services that helped their alleged victims make money. The victims were elderly people who didn’t have access to a computer. Jen and Stuart made sure to hide their roles in this alleged business opportunity scheme.
