James Caan’s Two Hallmark Movies Are Available To Watch Now
Did you know that the late, great James Caan starred in two Hallmark movies in the past six years? We have all the details, including what the Academy Award-nominated star said about the first movie, and how you can watch them now.
What Is Hallmark’s JL Family Ranch About?
According to the Hallmark synopsis, J.L. (Voight) lives in a small Texas town. He is an old-school sort of cowboy, who owns a huge ranch, with a big family to help run it.
This conservative rancher has to deal with all sorts of modern-day intruders. Of course, he will do anything to keep his ranch and his family together. That could mean battling his arch-enemy, the man who threatens to take everything he treasures all away.
This first movie stars Jon Voight (Ray Donovan), James Caan (Las Vegas), Melanie Griffith (The High Note), Teri Polo (NCIS), Grant Bowler (The Baker And The Beauty), Trevor Donovan (Aloha With Love), and Steven Bauer (Love On The Rock).
What Is Hallmark’s JL Ranch: The Wedding Gift About?
According to the synopsis, Rebecca (Polo) looks to be headed down the aisle! Henry (Walsh) has finally proposed. However, a man from her past has returned to their small, Texas town, through an invitation from her daughter.
This man can change the lives of two families forever.
Once again, James, Caan, Jon Voight, Teri Polo, Dylan Walsh, and Trevor Donovan are back for this second Hallmark movie. In addition, Judson Mills (Walker, Texas Ranger), Skyler Shaye (Ray Donovan), Bo Derek (10), and Clark Harris (Best Laid Plans) also star in this second movie.
James Caan ‘Rodeo-ed’ For Nearly A Decade
Back in 2016, James Caan spoke to the New York Post about the first of the two Hallmark movies. Although he had back surgery, due to five missing discs, he felt comfortable playing a rancher and sitting astride on a horse. That is because he had another career besides acting. “I rodeo-ed for nine years. That’s my other life.”
Next, he shared in language befitting his Godfather role, about ranch-related horse activities.
“Not bad for a guy from Sunnyside. Some f–king people don’t know their way around horses … but I’ll take credit for that horse [in the movie] not moving. I still rope and I have a colt I’m raising who’ll now break my a–. Like I said, I had that back operation …”
He also talked about his role as the bad guy, Tap Peterson, in the Hallmark movie. “It’s always more interesting to play the villain.”
“I always make the point of saying, ‘You can’t say “F–k you” nicely,’ so the actions speak louder than the words. It’s hard to tell writers, especially in movies, that words are secondary. Behavior is important. No matter how [Tap] says it he’s still going to take the ranch. Actors talking about acting is f–king boring … but I chose to be more of a lion in this role. A lion kills because he knows that he can, and I think I talk very quietly — but deadly — as Tap.”
Lastly, he revealed that he enjoyed making this movie. He stopped doing projects just for the paycheck. Instead, he vowed to only take on roles he loved. That includes JL Ranch. “Right now I’m only working when there’s something that comes along where I feel I can take a sense of pride.”
