Dr. Now is a pretty core part of the My 600-Lb. Life universe. But is it possible that there’s more to the bariatric surgeon than meets the eye? Former participant Lucas Higdon recently gave the inside scoop about the show and Dr. Now’s approach too.

One My 600-Lb. Life guest weighs in on the meal plans
Many viewers would love a chance to learn more about the My 600-Lb. Life participants after they leave the show. However, fans don’t always get to hear from them.
Lucas Higdon appeared in the show’s 10th season. During his time on the show, he managed to lose 150 lbs. But what does the TLC star think about the program and Dr. Now’s approach?
In a new Reddit thread, one My 600-Lb. Life viewer wanted to know what kind of specific details went into the meal plan Dr. Now creates.
“I was just wondering whether he believes in cutting out certain foods completely altogether, even when the patients do successfully with his initial 1200 calorie a day diet plan, then have the surgery and keep the weight off?” the Reddior asked.
Lucas Higsdon responded to the question.
“Honestly, every time I see Dr. Now he’s making sure I’m eating healthy,” Lucas replied. “He wants me to cut out extra fatty and sugary foods. Dr. Now doesn’t call long after surgery diet ‘dieting’ but rather just having a normal eating routine. Make sure to eat this portion of meats, this portion of greens, cut out most of the carbs, etc. I would say from experience he wants us to cut out the unhealthy foods even when we achieve a healthy weight. Mostly I believe is because he wants us to make it a habit to eat right, eat less, and eat less often. We have to train ourselves to do that and quite honestly… it’s the hardest god damn thing anyone can ever do, especially if you suffer from food addiction.”
