One Piece finally came to Netflix in 2020. The pirate adventure anime is one of the most popular and longest-running anime of all time in Japan. The same can be said of the manga. It comes as no surprise that Netflix would want to host the show given its popularity. As well as Netflix’s expanding desire to invest in anime. But how much of the show have they gotten onto their platform?
One Piece is actually more than just one of the longest-running anime. It’s one of the longest-running television series of all time. At 1,014 episodes as of writing, this show has more episodes than The Simpsons, the longest-running American show. Did Netflix manage to get every one of those episodes onto their platform? Not quite, but they’re getting pretty close.
One Piece On Netflix
Netflix currently has 10 seasons of Monkey D. Luffy’s antics available for streaming. That covers 263 of the show’s 1,014 episodes. Everything from East Blue to Water 7. For anyone with an interest in starting on One Piece, this gives a great jumping-off point. Even if that jumping-off point seems a bit intimidating, given it’s longer than many shows’ entire lifespan.
But there’s even more coming. On July 22nd, Netflix will be adding Seasons 11 through 13. That adds 62 more episodes to a total current count of 325. It includes everything from Enies Lobby to Goodbye Going Merry. It’s unknown at this point if Seasons 14 through 20 are coming to Netflix anytime soon. It’s clear that Netflix has a lot of interest in not only keeping One Piece on the platform, but expanding it, as well. So it seems likely that Netflix will at least push to get the rest of the seasons in the future.
The End Of The Adventure
One Piece has been a part of many young anime fans’ entire lives. But, soon, it is finally coming to an end. The manga’s author, Eiichiro Oda, put out an announcement in 2019 that he expects the story to end between 2024 and 2025. More recently Oda said he was taking a much-needed break prior to beginning to write the end of the manga. The anime is pretty well caught up to the manga at this point. So we can expect the end of the anime to come not long after the manga has seen its final chapter.
This won’t be an easy pill to swallow for many fans. Throughout One Piece‘s run, it’s expanded beyond the adventures of a young Monkey D. Luffy and some friends into an epic show full of hundreds of different characters.
The first 10 seasons of One Piece are out on Netflix right now. Seasons 11 through 13 will be arriving on the platform in late July. Hopefully seasons 14 through 20 will also be coming at some point in the near future.
