Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise star Cameron “Cam” Ayala took to Instagram less than 24 hours ago to share an update on his battle with lymphedema. Sharing a parade of photos and videos from a hospital, the BiP star notes that he shall now be referred to as “CAMputee.”
When did fans meet Cam Ayala?
Cameron “Cam” Ayala was first introduced on Season 15 of The Bachelorette. Sadly, he was sent back during week 3. Cam returned for a second chance at love during Bachelor in Paradise Season 6. He, however, got eliminated during the second week. Hailing from Austin, Texas, Cam is 33 years old. According to Bachelor Nation Wiki Fandom, he will be celebrating his 34th birthday next month.
TvShowsAce first reported on the lymphedema that Cameron suffered from back in 2019.
He has been struggling with lymphedema for most of his life
As US Weekly reminds fans, Cam has battled with lymphedema for most of his adolescent and adult life. He, however, took to Instagram yesterday to share an update on his battle. Turns out, the BiP star recently had surgery to get his right leg amputated. This amputation follows nearly two decades after he first received his diagnosis of lymphedema.

Back in December of 2018, the Bachelor in Paradise star explained why he had never really opened up about his condition. He didn’t want people to pity him because of his health.
This is something that I have never been public about because I never wanted sympathy or for people to feel sorry for me. In 2002 I was officially diagnosed with #lymphedema a non-curable condition that is often misdiagnosed and completely understudied by medical professionals across the [world] I was told by dozens of doctors and ‘Specialists’ that I would never be able to play competitive sports and that I would have to manage this condition for the rest of my life.”
He continued: “After visiting over 20 clinics, I was finally given some treatment options. Through manual lymphatic drainage massage, leg pumps, and custom compression garments, I was given a second chance to live a ‘normal’ life again. This didn’t come [without] countless nights of excruciating pain, swelling, and mental agony. Through the support of my family, friends, and music, I stopped focusing on my misfortunes and started prioritizing the blessings that I often took for granted.”
Bachelor Nation fans rally behind Cam Ayala
His Instagram update included a video of him getting up and using a walker to get around. He had medical staff on both sides of him and he was still hooked up to an IV as he focused on getting around. In the comments of his post, there was nothing but love and support. The entire Bachelor Nation was proud of him.
