AGT fans want more from Harper Akudama. She has an angel’s face with a voice from hell. Harper performed during the third round of tryouts for Season 17 of America’s Got Talent. At first, she looks like your typical kid. But she is much more than that.

Before the auditions kicked off, the judges spoke to Kelly Clarkson. They talked about which of the acts were the most intimidating. Simon Cowell mentioned a father-and-daughter duo who performed on poles. Unfortuantely, their performance didn’t turn out the way they anticipated.

Simon also recalled a ten-year-old girl who was “terrifying.” She looked sweet until she started singing. The Brit was so horrified, that he felt he needed an exorcism. Read on to learn more about Harper Akudama and her shocking talent.

Harper Akudama has an unlikely talent

Simon Cowell didn’t want to speak about the singer again. But, he never shared who that singer was. On the Tuesday, June 14 episode, a 10-year-old appeared in the talent competition with her rendition of Spiritbox’s “Holy Roller.” For those who aren’t heavy metal fans, this girl perfectly captures the essence of it. Harper Akudama is a young girl with an unlikely talent.

At the time of this writing, the YouTube video of her cover has over 200,000 views and over 1,000 comments. This is what made the young girl try out for AGT Season 17. Most of the comments talked about her ability to scream at such a young age. Her voice isn’t even fully developed yet.

Harper Akudama has many other covers on her YouTube channel after that video became a hit. Her stepfather, Ben Lumber, also appears with her in one of the videos. Ben was once a vocalist in the post-hardcore band Acres. Harper started working with Melissa Cross to improve her voice skills after the video went viral.

Screaming has to be done correctly in heavy metal music. It requires lots of training. If done incorrectly, you could end up running the vocals cords. Despite the speculation, Harper’s cords are not altered.

Gives an effortless performance on AGT

Harper Akudama gave an effortless rendition of that cover. The AGT judges had no idea that she was a death metal vocalist. She wore a sweet little black dress with flowers all over it. The juxtaposition of her looks and vocals made for an interesting combination.

When Harper started screaming like a heavy metal vocalist, the judges were shocked. They also noticed that she executed her performance perfectly. Harper Akudama ended up getting a standing ovation. Since Howie was missing from his seat, the judges asked her father to fill in his spot.

All four of them gave her “Yes” votes. AGT fans were also impressed with Harper’s performance. Some of them took to Twitter to share their thoughts. Even heavy metal fans were happy to see this genre being explored on the NBC show.
