Friday Night Smackdown set the foundation for the WWE Money in the Bank event next month. Qualifying matches kicked off on the blue brand between the men and women. Gunther got his shot at the IC Title against Ricochet. In the main event, Sami Zayn and Riddle went one on one with the stakes high. Riddle earns Universal Title Match
Ever since RK-Bro lost the Raw Tag Team Titles, Randy Orton has been out of action with an injury. Riddle has been going solo in his battle against The Bloodline, however, he’s been unsuccessful in targeting Roman Reigns. In recent weeks, Sami Zayn has been auditioning for a shot in The Bloodline. In the main event of WWE Smackdown, the stakes were high in the Zayn vs Riddle match. If Sami Zayn won, Riddle would be banned from competing on SmackDown. If Riddle won, he would earn a WWE Undisputed Universal Championship next. After a hard-fought battle, Riddle picked up the win with Reigns next up.
New IC Champion crowned
Under the name WALTER, Gunther was the most dominant force in WWE NXT for years. Since debuting on WWE Smackdown, the ring general has been overwhelming his competition but with little to no pushback. In return, Gunther was granted a shot at Ricochet and the Intercontinental Title. Despite Ricochet’s effort to defend his title, Gunther was too much to handle. After a powerbomb, Gunther picked up the win and the championship.
Money in the Bank qualifiers begin
The Money in the Bank premium live event is set for next month in Las Vegas. Both men and women WWE Superstars will get their shot at the MITB briefcase and earn an opportunity at a title on their time. On Friday Night Smackdown, the qualifying matches kicked off. Drew McIntyre and Sheamus battled to a no-contest, however, the outcome will reveal later. On the women’s side, Lacey Evans got the win over Xia Li.
