‘Sister Wives’: Does Kody Brown Gaslight His Family Members?
Family patriarch Kody Brown is probably one of the least-liked cast members on Sister Wives. Fans say that he is rude to his wives, drags his kids across the country and destroys their sense of stability, and exhibits really selfish behavior.
But is he a gaslighter on top of that? One Reddit user noticed something very interesting when they started binging Sister Wives recently. Keep reading to see what they uncovered.
Reddit users call out Kody Brown for his manipulation tactics
For those unfamiliar with the term, gaslighting is the “psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories and typically leads to confusion, loss of confidence and self-esteem, uncertainty of one’s emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator.”
It’s a pretty common element found in abusive relationships. And some Reddit users believe Kody Brown definitely fits the bill.
One Reddit user confesses that it’s their first time watching the show and writes, “So I’ve just started the season where they move the Flagstaff – haven’t watched any of it before but was intrigued after watching a fundie video. Is this whole season just Kody gaslighting the wives about his sh***y and inconsistent behaviour/decisions?! I came for the drama but this is just painful lol. I am so confused.”
“Is this whole entire show about Kodys gaslighting and sh***y behavior?” another user replied. “Yes, the answer is yes.”
When Sister Wives first premiered, it seemed to be more based on family values and a different way of living. Kody Brown actually seemed like a devoted husband and father in the beginning. But over several seasons, that all changed.
Today, most Sister Wives viewers can’t stand Kody. In fact, another Reddit thread even lumped him in with other unsavory figures like Josh Duggar and Jason Korpi.

The family patriarch probably regrets one major decision right now
Sister Wives fans really hate how often Kody forced his family to move houses. However, they also can’t help but feel he’s getting his just desserts right now.
Kody forced his sister wives to sell their houses so the family could move to Flagstaff, AZ a few years ago. Although the houses did sell, they would have definitely sold for much more money in 2022. Of course, Kody couldn’t predict that a global pandemic would drive up the demand for housing. But fans do find it hilarious that he made such a serious error.
