Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most successful modern American animation shows. It’s often called an “American anime” as it takes a lot of inspiration from the Japanese style. The original series ran from 2005-2008 and still receives massive praise to this day. When Netflix put the show on its platform in the United States, many got to experience it for the first time. And the acclaim for the show grew more and more.
Despite airing originally on Nickelodeon, it would be a mistake to consider Avatar a kids’ show. Like a Pixar movie, the show cleverly delves into adult themes in a kid-friendly manner. It doesn’t hide the realities of the world, it simply refrains from delving into some of the raunchier details. In that way, it’s a show about war and coming of age for all generations. So it’s no surprise that something so successful has managed to break a record in 2022.
A World Record Broken
With the success of the original series on Netflix’s platform, it’s no surprise at their decision to announce a new Avatar show. In 2018, the announcement came that a live-action remake would be made by the platform. This announcement left many fans with concern. The last live-action adaptation of the hit show they got was less than satisfactory. To this day, The Last Airbender by M. Night Shyamalan remains one of the lowest-rated films of all time.
But it seems like Netflix wants to put the effort into this new adaptation. And that effort has gotten them a world record. The production for Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix now holds the world record for the largest LED stage ever made. An LED stage is for generating fake backgrounds without the use of CGI. LED stages were used on The Mandalorian to beautiful effect. And it seems like the people behind Avatar at Netflix want to do something similar to bring the world to life.
Avatar: The Last Airbender On Netflix
There aren’t too many details about Avatar: The Last Airbender for Netflix right now. This world record is actually one of the first big updates we’ve gotten in a while. Other than that, one of the only other pieces of info we’ve gotten is on the cast. Mostly it includes smaller up-and-coming names. But many will recognize Daniel Dae Kim of Lost and Hawaii Five-O fame.
The release for the Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix doesn’t have any confirmation just yet. But many theorize that we’ll be getting the show sometime in 2023. It’s possible that we could see the first teaser later this year.
