Travis Scott Gears Up For First Post-Astroworld TV Performance
Travis Scott is gearing up for his first post-Astroworld television performance. The rapper has been slowly making a return to the public eye. He held intimate concerts and small performances. However, his latest performance would be his first big appearance since the 2021 Astroworld Festival.
The tragedy resulted in him maintaining a low profile. Even his fiance Kylie Jenner went into hiding on social media amid her pregnancy. Both Kylie and Travis have been back to posting actively on their platforms. The hip-hop artist will perform at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards this weekend.
Astroworld Festival mass casualties
In November 2021, Travis Scott headlined the Astroworld Festival, which resulted in mass casualties. Ten victims died at the music festival from “compression of asphyxia.” There was a massive riot and crowd surge, which led to the deaths.
Most of the victims underwent several tests before the medical examiners with the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences in Houston could determine the cause and manner of the deaths. The youngest of the victims was 9-year-old Ezra Blount. The ages of the other victims ranged from 14 to 27.
Medical examiners revealed that one factor that contributed to one man’s death was a combination of cocaine, methamphetamine, and ethanol, which is a form of alcohol, per Click 2 Houston. Three hundred people were injured and treated at the music festival, while 25 people were sent to nearby hospitals.
Dozens of lawsuits were filed over the deaths and injuries at the concert. Most of the fans surged toward Travis Scott’s set. The people squeezed so closely together that they couldn’t breathe or move. Travis is known for inciting this chaos at his concerts and music festivals.
The “Sicko Mode” star is still in the midst of these lawsuits. He promised to pay for the funeral expenses of the deceased victims. However, some of the grieving families rejected his favor. Travis is trying to make his return to the public eye just several months after the tragedy.
Travis Scott returns to the stage
Travis Scott will take part in his first live performance since the Astroworld tragedy. He will perform at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 15. He joins a long list of performers, including Dua Lipa, Mary J Blige, Megan Thee Stallion, and Morgan Wallen.
Travis’ performance at the 2022 BBMAs will be his first live performance. The 2021 Astroworld Festival was live-streamed on AppleTV+ that very night the tragedy took place. Per The Sun, the producer of the award ceremony shared during a press junket on Friday, May 6 the theme of this year’s show is to include Travis Scott and Morgan Wallen in an effort to “un-cancel the canceled.”
“The mood of the show is about love and forgiveness. As a music family, none of us are saints; none of us are without things that happen to them in life. So one of the things I’m doing directly is un-canceling the canceled. That’s breaking news because people haven’t been about un-canceling. But canceling is a trend that needs to stop.”
Host Diddy talked about the controversial move. He said that Travis “went through a tragedy,” while the disgraced country singer “used the N-word while talking to his boy.” He feels they both made mistakes and people should move on.
