History Survival Competition ‘Alone’ Heads To Polar Bear Country For Season Nine

History’s insanely difficult survival series Alone returns for season nine on Thursday, May 26. The new season bests all the others with a most challenging location: Labrador, Canada.

Ten contestants, two of whom hail from Idaho, will fight to survive in the stark wilderness of the Northeast shores of Labrador, Canada – a known hunting ground of the apex predator, the polar bear.

Survivalists were dropped in undisclosed, remote locations with only ten survival tools of their choice and enough camera gear to self-document their experiences.

The winner will outlast the others, as the purse is fat: A $500,000 grand prize.

Season nine contestants are Jacques K. Turcotte of Juneau, Alaska, a Wilderness Expedition Guide; Teimojin Nicholas Tan, a physician from Montreal, Quebec, Treehouse builder, and alpaca shearer Adam Riley of
Fayetteville, Arkansas; outdoor professional Juan Pablo Quinonez of Pinawa, Manitoba, Canada, and Guadalajara, Mexico. Also, community leader Igor Andre YvanAntoine Limansky of Salt Lake City, Utah, wilderness expert Jessica Krebs of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, wilderness skills instructor Karie Lee Knoke of Sandpoint, Idaho, hunting guide Benjamin James Hill of Bellevue, Idaho, leatherworker Tom Garstang of Earlysville, Virginia and commercial fisherman Terry Burns of Hurricane, West Virginia and Homer, Alaska.

These survivalists will suffer rain, snow, and wind while watching out for man-eating bears and other carnivores. However, it is building ingenuity, mental strength, and adeptness with their wilderness skills that will set them apart.

They will build their shelters, forage for water and food, and overcome obstacles for that huge half-million purse.
