Duggar News: Arranged Marriages Aren’t That Common, Here’s Why
Duggar fans have long thought that arranged marriages were very common in this family. But now, a family friend has spilled the tea and shared the truth about the kids’ courtships and marriages. Stick around to get the full scoop.
If you’re a fan of Jim Bob and Michelle’s large brood, you probably know a thing or two about their relationships. Rather than dating, their kids court someone. This is like dating, though they don’t typically court multiple people. They also keep PDA to a minimum in their courtships.
Fans have gotten a glimpse at many of the kids’ relationships over the years. Thanks to TLC’s Counting On, as well as social media, fans have seen just how quickly their relationships typically progress.
Because the Duggar kids don’t date multiple people, they often end up marrying the first person that they court. So, when someone is in a courtship, fans can expect a proposal and wedding very soon.
For example, Jeremiah Duggar announced he was courting Hannah Wissmann in October 2021. In January, he announced they were engaged, and they got hitched at the end of March. This may seem very fast to fans.
Duggar family insider reveals the truth about arranged marriages.
In a new Reddit post, a former Duggar family friend shared some interesting information. The friend allowed fans and critics to submit questions about the family.
One Duggar snarker asked about Jedidiah and Katey’s marriage. They pointed out that it’s believed this marriage was arranged. However, the family themselves never said this. It was simply speculated on due to how quickly their relationship seemed to progress.
In response, the former friend explained, “Not to my knowledge. I think the other thing is with how quick relationships tend to progress in fundieland it’s easy to assume they’re arranged, when really they just want to bang.”
In the past, Derick Dillard has teased that the courtships move quickly for this same reason.
So, maybe the family doesn’t believe in arranged marriages after all. It’s unclear how exactly all of their relationships begin. But according to this family friend, it sounds like arranged marriages aren’t so common, despite it seeming that way in the past.
