Colton Underwood and Jason Tartick were both once in the running for Bachelor. Why did ABC choose Underwood? Tartick weighs in. Read on for all the details.

Jason Tartick was almost The Bachelor

Many former Bachelorette and Bachelor contestants are later in considereation to lead their own season of the franchise. Jason Tartick is among those who almost got the gig but someone else was chosen instead.

He competed on Season 14 of The Bachelorette. He didn’t find love with Becca Kufrin at the time. However, after he left the show, he found love with Season 11’s Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe.  The two are currently planning their 2023 wedding after Tartick popped the question last year.

Bristowe recently said that they are lucky Jason went on her podcast instead of Bachelor in Paradise because she’d never date someone from BiP.

‘Calculated’ Colton Underwood got the gig instead

Jason Tartick wasn’t the only Season 14 contestant in the running for the next Bachelor season. The network was also considering Blake Horstmann and Colton Underwood. Tartick said in the past that Underwood out-negotiated everyone else to ultimately nab the gig.

He elaborated on how his former friend convinced ABC to choose him. Speaking on his Trading Secrets podcast, Jason Tartick called Colton Underwood easily swayed by producers.

According to Tartick, he didn’t get the gig because the head honchos knew they wouldn’t be able to manipulate him.

“They know I wouldn’t have been manipulated, I wouldn’t have done crazy s–t. [Underwood] was exactly right. He nailed it,” – Jason Tartick, Trading Secrets podcast.

Additionally, he wouldn’t tolerate any drama, per Page Six. Colton Underwood’s season ended up being one of the most dramatic in franchise history due to his reaction to Cassie Randolph leaving. When his frontrunner chose to self-eliminate, Underwood famously jumped a fence and vowed to quit the show.

Instead, he convinced Randolph to give him another chance and the two dated for two years after the show. However, even their relationship ended dramatically. Several months after their breakup, Cassie Randolph filed for a restraining order, accusing Colton Underwood of putting a tracking device on her car.

The order was eventually dropped and in 2021, Colton Underwood came out as gay. Jason Tartick had some tea to spill about Underwood’s reality TV show goals.

Kaitlyn Bristowe’s fiance reveals Coming Out Colton shocker

It was previously reported that Cassie Randolph and Colton Underwood were filming a reality show together before they split.

However, Jason Tartick alleges that Underwood’s reality TV dreams went far beyond Randolph. In fact, he claims the former Bachelor was filming “two or three” reality shows to shop at Netflix before landing Coming Out Colton.

None of the other reality shows were picked up by Netflix or another company.
