‘Sister Wives’: Kody Brown Failed His Children As Polygamist?
Sister Wives fans have watched Kody Brown emphasize the importance of his lifestyle. Even though he maintains his wives are free to leave, karmically he opts to stay in his marriages. He believes it will reflect poorly upon him in God’s eyes if he were to abandon his vows no matter how bad his relationships get. Though he has never enforced his lifestyle choices on his children, has he somewhat failed them in some capacity? Redditors seem to think so.
Sister Wives Commitment To Polygamy
When the series first began in 2010, Kody emphasized how important plural marriage was to him and his wives. Though he was not raised in the lifestyle, he did eventually convert at around twenty. Along with his father, the two men had always been of the Mormon faith but this was a different bracket. Kody married Meri, who was raised in the polygamist faith so they knew they’d eventually take on more wives. They had become close to Janelle who was actually married to Meri’s brother. Through her, Kody’s father met Sheryl, Janelle’s mom and she would go on to become his first spiritual wife.
Shortly thereafter, Janelle had divorced Meri’s brother and liked the idea of polygamy. She joined the Brown family as Kody’s second wife with Christine coming in as the third wife. Christine, like Meri, had grown up in a plural family so this was the path she was destined to take. In 2010, Kody started courting Robyn who was also the product of polygamy yet she and her first husband did not take on additional wives. Raising eighteen children, none of them really expressed they wanted to be polygamists while being interviewed. It was never completely out of the question though some were adamant. Now a Reddit thread has started about the Brown children never entering plural marriage and why.
So Far, No Polygamists
The Sister Wives family has slowly fallen apart. Kody and Meri are nothing more than friends yet she stays with the family out of loyalty. This is her chosen path and she is staying. He and Janelle are admittedly just partners but no longer in love. There have been rumors she is leaving but no real evidence. Christine bid adieu when the marriage lost its intimacy while Robyn is the only one he is really functioning with. Their eighteen children have seen the struggles of plural marriage, and Christine admittedly wanted to leave many times. Kody has often questioned why he stays so it kind of makes sense why any of the older children would shy away. A Reddit thread was started as to why the older kids don’t want a polygamous lifestyle.
It was noted that the kids saw their mother’s being unkind to one another as well as the jealousy that went on. Additionally, they felt a sense of loss when their dad was not there when needed. A good example would be Kody staying behind when Ysabel had her scoliosis surgery. Furthermore, the kids saw how Kody was rude to the wives when they did not obey their father. It makes perfect sense why they wouldn’t choose this life. Another Redditor feels things would have been different if the kids stayed attending their church with like-minded people. It is curious if Kody feels he failed in his faith since none of his older married kids have followed him.
Do you think any of the younger kids will choose polygamy or has that ship sailed? Let us know in the comments.
