‘Bringing Up Bates’: Trace & Lydia Officially Engaged

Trace and Lydia have seemed to have a pretty serious relationship for the past few months. They share lots of photos together on social media. And fans are loving getting to know Lydia via social media. Now, the couple is taking a big next step.
Bringing Up Bates fans suspected this announcement was coming soon. And it turns out that they were right.

On Thursday, March 31, Us exclusively confirmed Trace and Lydia’s engagement. The outlet reveals that Trace popped the question on the roof of an Embassy Suites hotel in Knoxville, Tennessee. Though he asked her to marry him on March 21, it only came out on March 31.
In a statement to Us, Trace said, “It’s hard to describe the emotions you feel when you are fixing to ask the girl of your dreams to marry you. I just know that Lydia is my best friend, and she’s the most positive thing in my life. It’s hard to imagine a day going by without seeing her or talking to her. I knew I wanted her to be by my side forever, but planning the where and the how and all of the details of the engagement was a task!”
Lydia explained how it all went down. She said, “When I opened the door, Trace was standing in his suit in front of this gorgeously decorated backdrop and I think I just stood there stunned for a few minutes. Our song was playing over the hotel speakers, and Trace dropped to one knee to propose.”
The bride-to-be said she’s “overjoyed.”
Was the engagement news already leaked?
As we reported earlier this week, a photo of Lydia wearing an engagement ring was posted and deleted online. This would have been after the date that Trace popped the question. So, it looks like the news was accidentally leaked and quickly covered up. Now, we know that Lydia was indeed wearing an engagement ring.
So far, there aren’t many details about Trace and Lydia’s upcoming wedding. In May, his brother, Lawson Bates, and his fiancée Tiffany Espensen are getting hitched. Maybe the family is choosing to focus on just one wedding at a time.
