How Hannah Ferrier Inspired Captain Jason To Join ‘Below Deck’
Below Deck Mediterranean alum Hannah Ferrier influenced Captain Jason Chambers to join the show. The former chief stew also revealed how she still feels about Captain Sandy Yawn and Malia White to this day. She also played a role in getting the young captain to become the new stud of the sea on Below Deck Down Under.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since Captain Sandy fired Hannah from her longtime chief stewardess role. She’s been thriving ever since. Hannah may have left reality TV, but she never left the yachting industry behind. In fact, she’s still a big part of the Below Deck franchise.
Hannah Ferrier influenced Captain Jason to join Below Deck Down Under
Captain Jason Chambers revealed that Hannah Ferrier is the reason why he joined the Peacock original series. It’s the latest spinoff series that’s been fairing well with Below Deck fans. Jason became the new heartbreaker thanks to his good looks and Aussie accent. In a new interview with E! News, Hannah said they already knew each other since “the yachting industry in Sydney is very small.”
When Jason was asked to join Below Deck Down Under, he spoke to Hannah first about it. She influenced him to join the show and the rest is history. Hannah finds it ironic since she had such a bad experience during her time on the reality series. However, she knew he would make the perfect captain of the spinoff series.
“It’s kind of funny,” Hannah Ferrier said, “because a lot of people would think with how things ended on the show that I would be like, ‘Don’t do it!'”
She understands Jason’s situation since he’s also a parent. He revealed on the show that he has a daughter. Hannah Ferrier knew he could film Below Deck Down Under along with “a few deliveries throughout the year” rather than to work a permanent position. That’s when Hannah convinced him to join the show.
How does she feel about Captain Sandy and Malia White?
Hannah Ferrier also learned that her friend Aesha Scott will serve as chief stew on Captain Jason’s charter. She reached out to the Below Deck Med alum since she also knows what it’s like to film the show while working interior. Hannah said she wanted Aesha “to succeed,” so she offered the same support. However, she doesn’t feel that way with Captain Sandy and Malia White.
Sandy found that Hannah had unregistered Valium and a CBD pen on board. This led to her subsequent dismissal. Malia sent Sandy the photos of Hannah’s belongings. Hannah thinks Sandy is the “bigger villain” of the two.
She hinted that “there was so much behind-the-scenes stuff with Sandy that nobody ever saw.” While Hannah Ferrier knows it’s “just a job,” she didn’t want to be labeled as a drug addict. Viewers sided with Hannah and hated the stigma associated with prescription medication and mental health.
“I think for every nine positive comments I’d get one negative, or not even,” Hannah Ferrier told E! News. “It was very much in my favor. And I think was good because it’s an important conversation to have.”
Hannah is doing better these days. She and her husband Josh Roberts welcomed their first child together. They welcome their first daughter, Ava Grace Roberts. The couple exchanged vows at a beach wedding this weekend.
