‘Survivor’ 42: Episode 1’s Eliminated Castaway Talks About Legendary Vote

SPOILERS FOR SURVIVOR SEASON 42:
Survivor Season 42 has 2 never-before-seen eliminations in the very first episode. A fairly impressive accomplishment to begin the season on. Most seasons gradually ramp up to their more legendary moments after a learning period for the new contestants in the first 2 to 3 episodes. But it’s full steam ahead in Fiji this time around, and the fans are loving it.
Not only does Season 42 feel like Season 41 with much deeper refinement. But it feels like the most entertaining new cast of players we’ve gotten in a long while. Recently Zach, the very first player officially voted out of the season, went on Rob Has A Podcast to talk about his legendary elimination and how he’s been coping.
A Record-Setting Elimination
What makes Zach Wurtenberger’s elimination one for the history books is that it was unanimous. Survivor has had votes in the past that were called unanimous but weren’t truly unanimous. This is because players can’t vote for themselves. It’s unanimous when the entire tribe votes for one member, but that one member still has to vote for somebody else. So there was never a truly unanimous vote in Survivor history until now.
Zach understood that the entire tribe would be voting for him after the events leading up to tribal. So he chose to play the “shot in the dark” twist. A twist from Season 41 where a player can risk their vote for a small chance at immunity. Zach’s shot in the dark failed, resulting in him losing his vote. So, truly for the first time, every single vote at tribal was cast for one person.
“I’ve really been so happy with it overall… I really feel like I had countless good days and then, like, a single bad day,” said Zach on his experience with the show.
‘Survivor’ 42 Won’t Stop
The fan reception to this season is already very positive. This new batch of sole-survivor wannabes clearly is here to play and is hellbent on doing it in a way that is both very entertaining and also slightly unhinged. Which makes for great television, so we’re all here for it.
It’s a shame to see Zach go. He was a fan-favorite before the season even began as a result of his presence in the online Survivor community. His brief time on the show was full of humor and heart, and it would have been fun to see him make it deeper into the game. But that’s Survivor, it so rarely goes how anyone wants it to.
