It’s not uncommon for Survivor contestants to receive judgment before their season even begins to air. For years now, superfans have gone through cast reveals and social media accounts to try and make winner picks beforehand. This can lead to some less than accurate assumptions about people based on first impressions.
Part of what makes Survivor such an interesting show is seeing how different people break common assumptions about them during their time surviving the elements and the other players. Like Cochrane going from a nerd that nobody thought much about to the winner of Caramoan. Or David on Ghost Island going from neurotic and terrified of nearly everything to a hardened and experienced player. So it’s a little strange to assume so much of people’s game on the basis of their social media and the tidbits CBS leaks alone. But Survivor superfans already have their sights set and their hopes high for one player in particular in the upcoming Season 42.
Redditor Turned Survivor
The Survivor first-timer in question is Zach Wurtenburger. He’s a 21-year old law student from Florida. He’s about as much a superfan as it’s possible to be one, since he’s literally the exact same age as the show and has been watching for as long as he can remember. Yes, older Survivor watchers, 21-year old human beings are now as old as the show itself. That stings to read, but it’s true.
Reddit is taking a liking to Zach after discovering him to be one of their own. Zach is such a Survivor superfan that he’s been an active participant in the r/survivor subreddit community for years before going on the show. It’s amazing to see a fellow internet nerd accomplish his dreams to make it onto the show. It gives so many other aspiring fans on the website hope that they’ll be the next to play.
Previously, another Survivor superfan and Reddit regular made it onto the show as well. His name is Adam Klein and he won his very first season (David vs. Goliath) as well as being a very competent player in his second season (Winners At War). To this day, Adam still comments on r/survivor semi-regularly. And if it tells the viewers anything, it’s that the nerds of Reddit are more than capable of playing a good game of Survivor.
Survivor 42 Is Here
The 42nd season of one of the longest-running reality shows is upon us. It’s going to be similar to Season 41, but with an interesting enough cast, it can still be an amazing season. Hopefully, Zach does well and checks plenty of things off of his Survivor bucket list during his time on the show. Only time will tell.
Survivor Season 42 premiers on March 9th, 2022.
