In late January, Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian issued a statement confirming rumors of a split. The pair confirmed their engagement was off, but didn’t provide any details about the reason for the split.
The two famously got engaged during the Season 7 finale of ABC’s Bachelor In Paradise.
Gunn’s close friend – and BIP co-star – Natasha Parker alluded to culture shock being behind the breakup after Maurissa moved from Atlanta to New York City.
However, things turned messy when Demi Burnett weighed in, saying everyone’s perception of the split was “SO WRONG.”
Shortly before Valentine’s Day, Maurissa Gunn returned to Instagram after some time away. Her first post since the split declared, “I’m back, baby.”
Riley Christian has kept his silence on the breakup, until now. What did he say?
Riley Christian breaks silence on split
Unlike Maurissa, Riley Christian has been active on social media since the shocking split. However, he never addressed the breakup. Instead, he focused on his workout regimen and shared plans to start his own law firm.
On February 17, he broke his silence on the split by sharing a lengthy post with his Instagram followers. Alongside a photo of him sitting on courthouse steps, he shared his gratitude for the special people in his life.
“It takes a while for me to heal, but I thank you all for your patience,” he began. The reality star noted it hasn’t been an “easy time” for him. In fact, he calls it “one of the most difficult times of my life.”
Without getting into specific details about the split, he vowed to “move forward with hopeful and positive spirits.” But first, he wanted to give a shoutout to some of the people who helped him through.
Christian thanked his friend Dijah Pickle for listening to him “wail” and then calling to check on him repeatedly.
He also thanked his father, whom he hasn’t seen for several years. “If you could see me today I think you’d be proud,” he wrote to his dad.
The Bachelor in Paradise alum also had something to say to Bachelor Nation fans.

However, he saved the sweetest tribute for his mama.

Riley Christian clearly has a close relationship with his mom. However, he wrote on his Instagram post that the split has only brought them closer. “To my mama, who I’ve spent more time with in the past month than I have in the past 5 years combined,” he wrote.
“You are the toughest and most amazing woman I know,” Riley Christian said about his mother.
He previously documented the time they spent together on Valentine’s Day with a sweet photoshoot.
At the end of his lengthy post, Riley Christian vowed to “have some fun” in 2022.
