Bachelor Nation fans were skeptical when engaged couple Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian didn’t seem to spend New Year’s Eve 2022 together. Questions further arose about their relationship when Gunn removed most traces of Christian from her social media.
However, the two remained silent for weeks about their relationship status. They finally released a joint statement to People magazine confirming that they ended their engagement and went their separate ways.
Since that time, neither has offered more details about the reasons why they split up.
So, what prompted Demi Burnett to wade into the conversation?
BIP alum implies more to Maurissa and Riley split
Demi Burnett starred on Season 7 of BIP with Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian. While Demi left the beach single, Gunn and Riley made history as the first Black couple to get engaged on the spin-off.
A few months later, their relationship was over and fans want to know why.
Burnett hopped on her Twitter on February 3, 2022, to weigh in on the split. “Yall got the Maurissa and Riley break up SO WRONG,” she vaguely wrote.
Several Bachelor Nation fans accused Demi of needing attention and speaking out of turn. In response to the accusations, the BIP alum spilled some more tea.

Fans wondered – if it’s not her business to tell, why bring it up? It’s unclear what caused Demi to post on Twitter about the split. Us Weekly reports that Maurissa Gunn showed her approval for the posts with a ‘like.’
That’s not the first time since the split that Maurissa has let someone else speak for her.
Natasha Parker speaks out
During a recent episode of the Click Bait podcast, co-host Natasha Parker chimed in on the surprising BIP split. The podcast has had its own drama recently, with Tayshia Adams quitting as host.
Parker revealed on the podcast that she spoke with Gunn after the split. According to Natasha, distance played a huge role in the breakup.
However, that doesn’t explain Demi’s shady tweet about there being more to the story.
