‘Below Deck’ Chef Ben Robinson Shares Who His Favorite Captain Is

Chef Ben Robinson from Below Deck talked about his favorite captain on the franchise. He’s been part of the show since the beginning. Ben was a full-time chef on Seasons 1 and 2. However, he didn’t return to Season 3 until the end of the season. He saved the yacht crew when Chef Leon Walker left because he didn’t get along with chief stew Kate Chastain.

Ben returned to Season 4 but left the original series. He later popped up on Below Deck Mediterranean for two more seasons. Ben has worked with Captain Lee Rosbach, Captain Mark Howard, and Captain Sandy Yawn. So, who is his favorite captain to work with?

Chef Ben Robinson talks about his favorite captain

The Below Deck alum made an appearance on the podcast Side Piece with Melissa Pfeister. He admits that his relationship with Captain Lee and the Below Deck crew members was greatly affected when he crossed over to Below Deck Mediterranean. Ben had a “great relationship” with Lee in the first season. However, that changed when Ben left the series.

“I think our relationship kind of started dwindling a bit as the seasons and that franchise expanded,” Ben said before joking, “It’s kind of like being in a band, you know? Like when you start hitting it big and the guitarist starts arguing with the lead singer. And different contracts. It’s like Slash and Axl Rose.”

Ben can’t choose his favorite captain. He was always asked which one is his favorite. The Bravo star likens captains to children. He doesn’t find it fair to choose favorites.

“Captains, they’re like my children. I can’t have favorites,” the Below Deck Galley talk cast member said. “Lee has a much more old school, old-fashioned kind of approach to being a captain. Which is fine and I’m actually used to that. Sandy’s very hands-on. I think Sandy’s genuinely concerned about how green her crew is and takes responsibility for it.”

Would prefer to work with this Below Deck star again

While Ben wouldn’t choose a favorite, he did reveal who would he work for again. The Below Deck alum admitted during a speed round that he would work with Captain Sandy. However, Ben thinks he’s too old to return to the franchise. Yet, he hasn’t ruled out the idea of being a chef at sea.

As TV Shows Ace previously reported, Ben was spotted hanging out with Sandy. Kate was there as well. Below Deck fans wanted to know the details of their outing. Are Kate and Ben looking to work with Captain Sandy instead? Or, are they just friends?
