Law & Order, the series that kickstarted them all, is returning to television later this month after a 12-year hiatus. Fans of the series and its various spinoffs live for sneak peeks into the next season and Sam Waterston just revealed a big one! Could an OG Law & Order character be returning to the beloved drama series?

Returning To The Air For The First Time In Over A Decade

Over the last 12 years, fans of the original Law & Order series have had to watch the show on streaming services or catch reruns on television. The show was canceled in May of 2010 after 20 seasons. However, there was a lot left up in the air as far as the characters in the show go. People who watched religiously have long hoped it would get picked up eventually.

After all this time, season 21 of Law & Order will air in late February. Viewers are wondering who will be returning from the original show. “One of the wonderful things about doing a television show in New York like this with really juicy parts for visitors is that there’s this extraordinary pool of talent of New York actors,” Law & Order star Sam Waterston said in an interview with Variety. “So, the hope and expectation is that there will be a wonderful surprise every week.”

Which Law & Order Cast Members Are Coming Back?

Obviously, Sam Waterston will appear in the newest season of Law & Order as Jack McCoy. It is also known that Anthony Anderson will return as Kevin Bernard. Waterston revealed that other familiar faces may be returning too. “There is a person coming back in the first show, one of my favorite people on Earth. I’m not allowed to tell who that is, but you’ll be glad when you see her,” Waterston teased.

That statement leaves a lot of guesswork for fans. There have been a large number of characters that could fit into the description he provided. Some people have started making predictions as to who he could’ve been talking about. Angie Harman, who played the role of ADA Abbie Carmichael in Seasons 9 through 11, is one possibility.

Carolyn McCormic and S. Epatha Merkerson have been other names that have come up in discussion. No matter who Waterston was referring to, it sounds like producers are planning for many fan favorites to make a return. Jesse Martin, also known as Detective Ed Green from the show, has expressed interest in coming back to Law & Order. Several other previous cast members have talked about making a return as well.

The only way to find out what Law & Order OG cast members will be making a comeback is to tune in. Season 21 will air on Thursday, February 24 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
