Katharine McPhee Wanted To Win ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 6

The Masked Singer Group B finals revealed Katharine McPhee and David Foster as Banana Split. The American Idol alum and the music producer got sent home on Wednesday’s episode. This leaves Queen of Hearts and The Bull into the Season 6 finals. Before the final reveal, the panelists had their most successful night yet.

Robin Thicke was the only celebrity panelist who didn’t guess Banana Split was the Grammy-winning composer and record producer and his wife, singer-songwriter Katharine McPhee. The couple had to go home on Wednesday’s episode. According to a new report, Katharine had a feeling that they were going to win the entire season.

Robin Thicke didn’t guess Banana Split

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Katharine and David couldn’t believe that Robin Thicke didn’t recognize them since he knows them the best. The rest of the panelists correctly guessed them. Katharine noted that her husband knew Nicole Scherzinger. He was even the one who discovered the former Pussycat Doll singer. Also, David was good friends with Robin’s father, Alan Thicke.

“My take on Robin [Thicke] claiming that he didn’t know who you were, you might have a different take, but I think he knew exactly who we were, he just didn’t want to… he wanted to do some good old fashion TV acting and not make it such a home run for all the judges,” Katharine McPhee explained. “So I think he knew. There’s no way he wouldn’t know who David is. He just know the way David’s mannerisms were. He’s known you since he was a baby.”

Katharine was “honestly pretty surprised” that the rest of the judges guessed her from her first performance. She didn’t think they would recognize her voice so early on in the show. The Smash alum didn’t realize that her voice was so recognizable. But even the viewers guessed Katharine and David based on their performance and clue package alone.

Katharine McPhee is “very upset” with The Masked Singer elimination

Fans know her from the fifth season of American Idol in 2006. She was the runner-up behind Chris Daughtry, who came in at fourth in the singing competition. In that same interview, she admitted that she was “very upset” that they didn’t make it to the finals. The pair had a feeling they were going to sweep this competition.

“I was very upset that we got kicked off,” Katharine continued. “My husband — you were looking at me like, ‘That’s okay, baby’ — and I was just so disappointed. I really wanted to take it all. You know, to speak of American Idol, I came in second on American Idol. I wanted to take this one home and it just didn’t happen again. So maybe it’s just not in the cards for me to be number one but…”

David teased a possible stint on Dancing With the Stars. But Katharine shot him down and said it “will never happen.” Then he joked that if the Queen of Hearts “winds up dead somewhere,” they admit to the crime. It sounds like this pair is still taking the elimination hard.

David Foster calls his wife a “triple threat”

The musical duo also spoke to ET about their elimination. Despite being so close to the finals, they “had the best time doing the show.” Katharine McPhee admitted the producers had to “convince” them to join the show. Later in the interview, David praised his wife and called her a “triple threat.”

“I was so proud of Kat. She’s a triple threat! She sings, she dances, she acts,” David exclaimed. “And she got to do a little bit of all of that.”

He’s right. Katharine tap-danced their way into the semi-finals. What are your thoughts on Wednesday’s Group B finals? Do you agree that Katharine McPhee and David Foster should’ve won the show? Sound off below in the comments.
