Dexter New Blood Showtime

The Dexter: New Blood Premiere is tonight on Showtime and many are wondering if they should stream or skip what is also being referred to as Dexter Season 9. Dexter is a series that originally ran for eight seasons on Showtime before coming to an end in 2013. The series went down in history as having one of the worst series finales. Now, nearly a decade later, the series has another chance with this revival.

Reviving a series after being over for nearly a decade is a risky decision. Dexter has a cult-like fan base. So, there are a lot of people just thrilled to get Dexter Morgan back on their screens. But, with that huge fan base comes a lot of anticipation and expectations. Will the series live up to the original charm it had with its fans nearly a decade ago?

Revivals after nearly a decade have been successful in the past

Dexter: New Blood wouldn’t be the first series to get revived after years of being off the air. So, this is something that can be done in a way that makes fans happy.

Revivals after a decade (or nearly a decade) has passed has worked for shows in the past. Prison Break, for example, ended in 2005. Nearly a decade later, the series was revived for Season 5. The revival was a huge success with fans and they still yearn for a Season 6 even though chances of more Prison Break episodes is highly unlikely.

Leverage is series that ran for five seasons before coming to an end in 2005. Nearly two decades later, the series was revived under the name Leverage: Redemption. Most agree the reboot did hold on to its original charm as nearly the entire cast returned.

One of the key components in the revival of a series being successful is the return of the cast. White Collar is another TV series fans have been begging for a revival of. But, fans know a core member of the cast recently passed away. And, many fans agree the passing of the cast member would make it extremely difficult to revive that series.

Dexter: New Blood Premiere: Stream or skip the revival?

As we previously reported, Showtime subscribers do have the option of watching Dexter: New Blood before it airs. The streaming service drops the episode into their library just after midnight on the day it airs. So, the premiere is already available to watch.

With respect to the fact that these characters and the actors that play them have aged, the premiere does a pretty good job of holding the charm the original Dexter had. If anything, the premire kicks off making viewers concerned Dexter Morgan might just be a changed man living a simply life now. Will Dexter Morgan kill again?

Dexter: New Blood stars out a little slow and the character running through the snowy treets with a gun as he hesitates to kill deer doesn’t make a lot of sense at first. But, Dexter: New Blood is definitely worth streaming. Especially if you are a fan of the originan and hope for a better ending with more closure than Season 8 provided.
