Kourtney Kang’s Disney+ Original ‘Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.’ Looks Amazing, Preview

Exciting news for families and Disney fans as executive producer Kourtney Kang (Fresh Off The Boat) has a fun new series, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. coming to Disney+ in September.

This morning, they sent TV Shows Ace the new opener preview to give you a feel for this positive and uplifting new show that entertainingly celebrates the brainiacs and the academic achievers.

Below is the title sequence featuring a new rendition of the iconic “Doogie Howser, M.D.” theme re-imagined and performed by music composer Wendy Wang and world-renown ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro.

Set in modern-day Hawai‘i, Doogie is a coming-of-age dramedy inspired by the hit medical series “Doogie Howser, M.D.

The series is Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha, a 16-year-old child genius balancing a medical career and life as a teenager.

Disney+ says: “With the support of her caring and comical ‘ohana (family) and friends, Lahela is determined to make the most of her teenage years and forge her own path.”

About Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.

Creator and executive producer Kourtney Kang (How I Met Your Mother, Fresh Off the Boat) was born in Hawaii and raised in a Philadelphia suburb by her Irish mom and Korean dad. She imparts her own life’s stories and experiences into this new series centered on a mixed-race Asian-American girl.

And, behind every young savant is a hyperfocused mother. Guiding Lahela is her career-driven mom, Dr. Clara Hannon, her supervisor at the hospital.

She makes things complicated at times for her daughter, but dad Benny’s a doting father to Lahela, who helps keep her connected to important things.

You will get to know her brothers Kai, Brian Patrick, her best friend Steph, her surfer crush Walter and her fellow hospital colleagues, Dr. Lee, Charles, and Noelani.  The series is filmed in modern-day Hawai’i, on location in O’ahu.

The Disney+ original series Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. starts streaming September 8, with new episodes premiering every Wednesday.

The cast

Peyton Elizabeth Lee (Andi Mack) stars as the title lead alongside a talented ensemble cast including Kathleen Rose Perkins as Dr. Clara Hannon, Jason Scott Lee as Benny Kamealoha, Matthew Sato as Kai Kamealoha, Wes Tian as Brian Patrick Kamealoha, Emma Meisel as Steph, Mapuana Makia as Noelani and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman as Charles. Recurring stars include Alex Aiono as Walter and Ronny Chieng as Dr. Lee.

Peyton Elizabeth Lee, cast as “Lahela ‘Doogie’ Kamealoha,” was recently seen as the lead in Disney’s family superhero film Secret Society of Second Born Royals. Disney developed this film with direct input as a franchise vehicle for Peyton. For her performance, she was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Lead Actress
in a Superhero Film.

And the creatives behind the series include Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, Dayna Bochco, Jesse Bochco, Erin O’Malley, Matt Kuhn, and Justin McEwen, who serve as executive producers alongside Kourtney Kang.
