‘1000-Lb Sisters’ Spotlight: Who is Dr. Eric Smith?
The second season of 1000-Lb Sisters just wrapped on TLC. This season contained a lot of new experiences for Tammy and Amy Slaton. New obstacles, new family members, and even new doctors. Season 2 features Tammy’s sessions with her new bariatric doctor. So, who is Dr. Eric Smith? Read on to find out everything you need to know about this hometown doc with a mission.
Small Town Doc Featured on 1000-Lb Sisters
Fans noticed that during various episodes of season 2, the show would feature Tammy’s session with Dr. Eric Smith. This doctor was a new edition this season and fans of the show seemed to really get on board with his blunt – but caring manner.
So who is Dr. Eric Smith? Smith hails from Georgetown, Kentucky, and works with Georgetown Bariatrics and Advanced Surgical Services. A Board Certified General and Bariatric Surgeon Smith is said to perform more Robotic General Surgery procedures than any other certified surgeon in the state of Kentucky. He is revered as a leader in robotic medical technologies among his peers.
According to Georgetown Bariatrics’ website, Smith has been in practice since 2006. He has helped thousands of clients on their weight loss journey. His peers and co-workers say that his patient outcomes speak for themselves.
Dr. Smith is said to having an amazing bedside manner. Testimonials from patients describe him as a caring person who works hard to build a partnership with his patients to help them achieve their goals. In addition to being a Board Certified Bariatric Surgeon, Smith is also a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, and the American Osteopathic Association.
Dr. Eric Smith Dishes On 1000-Lb Sisters Filming Process
Obviously, Dr. Smith has other patients besides Tammy. He runs a very successful practice. So, how did filming affect his practice? Smith says having a film crew in the office took a bit of getting used to. While a new experience, he adds that it didn’t have an effect on their way of working. When the crew would come in to film one of Tammy Slaton’s appointments, Smith says that once the cameras were in place and ready to go it was ‘business as usual. Tammy might be a reality celeb – but she is still his patient and he isn’t going to sugarcoat her situation for her. He wants the very best for Tammy and is dedicated to helping her achieve her weight loss goals.
In an interview with NBC affiliate LEX18, Smith told reporters that TLC film crews were very considerate during their visits. They made every effort to minimize intrusion and disruption to the practice. Smith said that he appreciates this because one of his main concerns is that filming never compromises the level of care he gives to patients.
How Has Being on Television Effected His Practice?
Smith says that he doesn’t identify himself as a celebrity, however, the extra visibility has had its benefits. TLC helped put his practice on the map in a big way. He says that the show has created great exposure for his practice and their hospital.
Dr. Smith is dedicated to providing superior care for his bariatric patients. So, it seems that whatever time he spends in partnership with TLC with help further his mission to inspire those struggling with weight issues to work toward their optimum health.
