Could ‘Dancing With The Stars’ See Another Deaf Champion With Abigail Heringer?

Abigail Heringer didn’t win Matt James’ final rose on The Bachelor. But could she win something even better – the Mirrorball Trophy?

What are the chances she would become the third deaf contestant on Dancing With The Stars?

Nyle DiMarco Shimmied His Way to Mirrorball Trophy

In 2015, aspiring model Nyle DiMarco won Season 22 of CW’s America’s Next Top Model. He also had a recurring role on Switched at Birth. Even though he couldn’t hear the music, DiMarco had no trouble on the dance floor.

In fact, he was the first deaf person to win Dancing With The Stars. Since his reality tv show days, he has turned his focus on advocating for the Deaf community.

Actress Marlee Matlin Broke Boundaries As First Deaf DWTS Contestant

Surprisingly, Nyle DiMarco wasn’t the first deaf person to compete on the ABC dance competition. Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin paired with pro Fabian Sanchez during Season 6.

Marlee returned during the Season 22 finale to cheer on Nyle DiMarco.

She has a new sitcom coming to Disney+ soon. Life and Deaf tells the story of being a hearing child in a family with deaf parents.

Abigail Would Have a Leg Up On Previous Deaf Dancers on Dancing With The Stars

Marlee Matlin and Nyle DiMarco are profoundly deaf. So is Bachelor star Abigail Heringer. At least, until she puts her cochlear implant processor on. Abigail was born profoundly deaf. At the age of two-years-old, she had a cochlear implant inserted.

She recently told Hearing Like Me that she had surgery as a teenager for a second cochlear implant. However, she only uses one of them.

But it’s still likely Abigail would be able to hear the music.

ABC has not given any indication if DWTS will return for another season. If it does, it is highly likely that someone from Bachelor Nation will compete on the show. Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe won Season 29 of DWTS. Hannah Brown won the season before that.

Matt James could redeem himself by appearing on the dance competition.

There are rumors that Abigail could be the next Bachelorette

If DWTS returns, it will likely premiere on the fall schedule later this year.
