‘Elite’ Season 5 Canceled or Renewed: Netflix Makes a Decision Ahead of Season 4

Can’t get enough of the Spanish-language high school mystery series? Netflix has made a decision about the future of Elite ahead of the fourth season.

Deadline reported the news that Elite Season 5 is officially happening. This news comes ahead of the Season 4 premiere, which doesn’t even have a date yet! It’s excellent news for those not certain about watching the fourth season in case there is another cliffhanger.

New Cast Members Joining Elite Season 5

As well as the renewal, the publication also announced two new cast members joining the series for the fifth season. With casting announcements already, it appears the renewal happened quietly. This isn’t surprising considering the pandemic. Netflix will want to keep breaks between the next seasons of its top shows to a minimum. Quietly renewing to allow the writers to work is the best way to do that.

Who will join the season? Valentina Senere and André Lamoglia will join. There are no character details at this time. Again, that’s not surprising. There is no way Netflix wants to spoil anything for the upcoming fourth season.

When announcing the renewal, Netflix did confirm that Season 4 still doesn’t have a premiere date. Many fans hope that it will arrive in 2021, but this was a show affected by the pandemic. Fans can probably expect it toward the end of the year.

Will the Fifth Season Be the Last?

It is uncommon for show renewals past three or four seasons on Netflix. The costs of production go up exponentially, so a TV series has to be excellent in terms of viewership to stand a chance of renewal. Elite is one of those shows that does perform well in viewership. In 2019 alone, 20 million households tuned into the Spanish-language series. It out-performed a number of English-language dramas.

The early renewal is concerning for some. Is it possible that Netflix is getting ready to end the series? Early renewals at this point could be to allow the production to wrap up the storylines.

Nobody knows if Elite Season 5 is the last. There is nothing to hint that just yet, except for Netflix’s usual patterns for renewals and cancellations. With so many “unrenewed” shows in 2020, Netflix will want to play things safe with renewals of top shows right now. It is something TV Shows Ace will keep a close eye on in the future.

Getting a final season renewal is often beneficial for a series. Fans are ready for the end and the writers have time to wrap up storylines in a suitable way.
