Who can forget the iconic pairing of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence from the quintessential slice of life 90s comedy Boy Meets World? Well, Panera certainly couldn’t. The food chain convinced the actors to once more join forces to create their own rom-com for Valentine’s Day. Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel work together effortlessly and remind audiences why they were such an iconic duo.

Savage talked about the experience with Us Weekly and explained why he was excited to participate in the project. “It was so much fun. We had such a nice time together. Danielle was a total pro, and obviously, we’ve grown up together, so it’s always nice just getting the chance to reunite and work with someone that you’ve known since you were a kid.”

The Panera rom-com

The story unfolds with two people ordering the same meal at Panera. And surprise, surprise it just happens to be old flames who proceed to bond over a flatbread. The couple experience all the highs and lows of an entire relationship in the span of less than a minute and a half. But that is what makes it so cute.

Savage and Fishel dish up the cheese as they pay homage to signature rom-com moments from beloved movies. The nods include Pretty Woman, The Break-Up, Love Actually, When Harry Met Sally and Sixteen Candles. And all this happens because two people fell in love over a Panera Pepperoni Flatbread.

The project was even more special for Ben Savage because he also got to work with his brother Fred. Fred Savage directed the digital short and Ben said, “That was also special for me.” And the Boy Meets World actor noted a special place in his heart for one of the featured rom-coms. “Love Actually has always been a favorite movie of mine, so that was a lot of fun to film.”

“It just sounded like such a fun opportunity and just such a fun experience. And so, I think Danielle and I both were like, ‘Let’s do it.’ And we had a great time together, and I think it turned out pretty well.”

Really the only thing missing was Eric calling for Mr. Finney.

Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel other projects

Boy Meets World ran from 1993 to 2000, with Savage and Fishel playing the central couple. But the pair reprised their roles in the spin-off series Girl Meets World. This show aired on Disney Channel from 2014 to 2017 and followed the story of Riley Matthews, Cory and Topanga’s daughter. Though never reaching the acclaim of the original series Girl Meets World had its charms and boasted a constant stream of cameo moments from the original cast.

Savage and Fishel once again prove that they have a unique chemistry that will draw audiences into a story. But could there be future shorts from the couple? With over ten seasons of Boy/Girl Meets World material and endless romantic comedies to choose from the possibilities are endless. Fishel could even draw the “Topanga” heart on her face for the next short. Savage even joked, “That would be in part two!” So, there is a chance fans!
