‘Sex And The City’ Revival Confirmed, But There’s A Twist

Sex and the City is officially returning. The fan favorite HBO series is getting new life as a revival has been confirmed for the network’s streaming service, HBO Max.

According to Variety, the sequel series will be titled And Just Like That… However, there’s a twist. It will feature only three of the original cast members, including Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw, Kristin Davis (Charlotte York), and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbs). Actress Kim Cattrall, who played the lovable Samantha Jones. will not return.

Sex and the City is back

Sarah Aubrey, the head of original content at HBO Max revealed her excitement for the project in a statement about the series.

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” she said.

All three actresses will also executive produce. Michael Patrick King will also be back to produce the series. The original show followed Carrie and her three best friends. The women navigate their careers, friendships, love life, and families while living in Manhattan.

The series ran for six seasons on HBO. Although, fans couldn’t get enough of the characters and demanded more. Eventually, two feature films were made that followed the events that happened following the series finale.

Who could forget Carrie’s true love, Mr Big, aka John Preston, coming to rescue her in Paris? We all swooned when the duo ended up together. In the films they finally tied the knot. Of course, Carrie’s past (included former fiancé Aiden) couldn’t be forgotten.

Parker announced the new show via her Instagram account, along with a teaser video. “I couldn’t help but wonder…where are they now?” she wrote in the caption.

Where did we leave off?

When fans last saw Carrie she was living her best life with Big. Miranda and Steve had gone through a rough patch, but had gotten back on track in their marriage. In addition, Charlotte and her husband Harry were living happily with their two daughters, Rose and Lily.

In addition to the original series and the movies, Sex and the City has also given fans a glimpse into the life of a young Carrie Bradshaw. The CW’s The Carrie Diaries premiere in 2013, and followed the character through her late teen years as she fell in love with New York and met her best friends.

As for how the show will handle Cattrall’s absence, that remains to be seen. The series will likely mention Samantha from time to time, and will have to come up with a storyline about why she’s out of the picture.

Currently, HBO Max is also reviving True Blood and Gossip Girl.
