‘Fuller House’ Star Candace Cameron Bure On Season 5’s Michelle References, Plus Show’s Beloved Dog Cosmo Passes Away Unexpectedly
One thing has been missing from Netflix’s spin-off Fuller House. Youngest Tanner sibling, Michelle. During Full House, the role was shared by twins Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen. The twins first began appearing on the ABC 80’s sitcom when they were infants. They were just nine-years-old when the show was canceled in 1995.
First Half of Final Season Has Several Michelle References
Fuller House premiered on Netflix in 2016. Since the very first season, the writers have given wink-wink nods to the Olsen twins’ disinterest in reprising their role as Michelle Tanner.
During the first episode, they craftily explained Michelle’s absence by giving her a fashion empire in New York. As fans know, Mary-Kate and Ashley have their own fashion line, Elizabeth and James. The twins retired from acting many years ago and seemingly are not interested in making a comeback.
On the show, Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) returned to town and asked about Michelle. Danny (Bob Saget) replied that she was busy.
“Well, Michelle sends her love, but she’s busy in New York running her fashion empire.”
After this line was uttered, the entire cast broke the fourth wall by turning to stare at the cameras. Just in case you missed the joke.
There have been other references here and there throughout the series, including in the final season kick-off episode. Looking for something in the family’s attic, the next generation of Tanner children found a treasure trove of references die-hard fans enjoyed.
When the older kids asked Max (Elisa Harger,) how he knew so much about the family, his response was another wink-wink, nudge-nudge by the writers. He said that he watched eight years of the family’s home videos, which is how long Full House was on television.
Max also mentioned that the home videos ended with Michelle getting amnesia by falling off a horse, which happened during the Full House series finale.
Several Easter eggs were hidden in the attic. Most notably, the iconic pink bunny wallpaper that Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) had framed when he took over Michelle’s room.
Another 80’s Sitcom Star Makes a Special Appearance on Season 5
If you haven’t watched the first half of Season 5, stop reading now to avoid being spoiled.
Fans of ABC’s TGIF lineup were treated to a casting marvel when Kimmy (Andrea Barber) went on a series of dates. Candace Cameron Bure’s older brother, Kirk Cameron, appeared as himself to a starstruck Kimmy.
Kirk Cameron played Mike Seaver on the sitcom Growing Pains. He was one of the most popular posters found on the bedroom doors of teenage girls across the world. In fact, Kimmy acted out some of his most popular poses.
Candace Cameron Bure Reveals if Fans Can Expect to See the Olsen Twins Before Show Ends
It’s no secret that the head honchos have been trying to get the Olsen twins to make a cameo on Fuller House since 2016. According to producer, Jeff Franklin, the door is “always open.” (Ironically, that’s a catchphrase uttered on the show anytime someone knocks at the door.)
However, Candace Cameron Bure reveals to TVLine that the show stopped asking Mary-Kate and Ashley to appear on the show.
We did not reach out to them. It was very clear several seasons ago that they did not want to do it.”
Despite what the Fuller House star says, fans continue to hold out hope for a Michelle sighting during the season half of Season 5. One character they WON’T see is Aunt Becky. TV Shows Ace reports that while the cast support Lori Loughlin, she definitely won’t be in the final season.
Netflix Shares Heartbreaking News About Fuller House’s Dog Cosmo
