Lifetime Will Air Chinese American Holiday Movie For It’s A Wonderful Lifetime
Get ready, Lifetime Christmas and holiday movie fans. The network recently announced it has plans to include a Chinese-American holiday movie to their It’s A Wonderful Lifetime lineup. What do we know about A Sugar & Spice Holiday?
A Sugar & Spice Holiday Is Lifetime’s First Chinese-American Holiday Movie
Lifetime will soon be making their first Chinese-American holiday movie. A Sugar & Spice Holiday will be part of the 2020 It’s A Wonderful Lifetime holiday movie lineup. What is it about?
According to NBC News, this movie focuses on Suzie. She is an up and coming architect. She returns to her Maine hometown after her beloved grandmother has died. After much “guilting,” Suzie and her high school friend, Billy, sign up for the local gingerbread house competition.
Suzie searches for the perfect recipe, while finding the perfect love.
According to A&E Networks representative, Kristine Tiongco, this movie is a first. She explained that this movie is a first to see a lead character get immersed into her family’s cultural traditions and customs, all adapted for the holidays.
The script for this new Lifetime movies was written by Eirene Donohue. She is Vietnamese-American. She pitched the holiday story of the Asian-American family to A&E Networks, and they “loved it.” Jennifer Liao will direct.
This is not the only diverse and inclusive 2020 Lifetime holiday movie.

It’s A Wonderful Lifetime Lineup will Include LGBTQ Movies
Lifetime’s 2020 holiday movies will include The Christmas Set-Up. According to TVLine, this is their first LGBTQ movie where the lead romance is a same-gender couple. Last year, the network included a same-gender kiss by Brian Sills and Mark Ghanimé, in Twinkle All The Way.
However, what is Twinkle All The Way about? Hugo and his best friend Madelyn head back to his hometown of Milwaukee. They are spending Christmas with his mom Kate. Kate heads the local Christmas celebrations, but she also likes to do a little matchmaking. She has arranged something special for her New York corporate lawyer son. She devises a way for Hugo to run into his high school secret crush, Patrick.
The reunion goes very well. But, could a highly sought after job promotion and a London move derail Kate’s well-executed plans? We will find out in Lifetime’s first LGBTQ holiday movie.
What About Hallmark?
In July, Hallmark sent out a press release that included more diverse casts. They also promised to be more inclusive. In addition, they shared that they were “in negotiations” to make their own LGBTQ holiday movie.
Above all, One Million Moms has filed a petition on Hallmark’s intention. Consequently, they encourage others to ban the network if they make a movie with a same-gender couple.
Moreover, Lifetime has made all of the big moves. However, will Hallmark follow suit?
When Does It’s A Wonderful Lifetime Start?
It’s A Wonderful Lifetime will begin to air in early October. Subsequently, the network will release 30 holiday movies in 2020. They will include Twinkle All The Way and A Sugar & Spice Holiday.
