Ryan Seacrest Shares His Father’s Cancer Diagnosis
Ryan Seacrest’s father, Gary Lee, is nearly 80 years old. Ryan and his father have a really close relationship with one another. The Wheel of Fortune host revealed that his father has been battling prostate cancer for several years. However, despite ongoing treatment, Gary is not making any progress or getting better. Seacrest revealed that his father’s cancer has spread and things are not going well for him. Gary wishes to keep his diagnosis private, but recent events left him compelled to share his story.

Ryan Seacrest revealed that he was hosting a live show of American Idol when his sister reached out to say that their father was being rushed to the ICU. Seacrest revealed that his father had contracted pneumonia and had gotten gravely ill. He said,
“I finished the show. We were almost done. I couldn’t, I couldn’t even, I didn’t even remember what I was saying was on the show. It was like robotic at that point.”
Once the live show was over, Ryan rushed to be by his father’s side in Atlanta, Georgia. Once he arrived, he realized that his father’s health condition was dire. Ryan revealed that the doctors were very concerned for Gary’s life. Having pneumonia while undergoing chemotherapy is a life-threatening situation.

Ryan Seacrest Shares The Emotional Story Of His Father’s Survival
Ryan Seacrest revealed that his father slowly started to get his strength back after not being able to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom on his own. He revealed that during his father’s hospital stay, his mother was also struggling with cancer. She required rest, even though she is in remission now. Seacrest was forced to travel between his parents as his father fought for his life.

Ryan Seacrest shared that his father, Gary Lee, has not left the hospital or home in over four months. The family wanted to celebrate Gary’s birthday with him. Ryan asked his father what he would like to do for the special day, and Gary replied, “I just want to get out of this chair. I just want to leave this house.” Seacrest shared that the family was able to celebrate his father, and both his parents were able to sit outside at the beach together. He said they were content to just look at the water. Ryan emotionally concluded:
“So anyway, I watched them over the weekends send photos of smiling and happiness and being together — they’ve been married for 55 years. And they’ve got each other, and his pneumonia is gone, but his cancer is not, and so we have to go back into another treatment and fight this cancer. And it is, it is just, it’s difficult. Cancer affects every one of us in some way. And it… then it sucks. The treatments suck. I know he’s going to get through this. You know, we were worried about flying and everything, he had to take oxygen on the plane. Thank God he made it. And they’re just happy to sit together looking at an ocean. And I just, I want to share that because I’ve been holding that in for a long time.”
