‘Love Is Blind’ Alums Accuse Producers Of ‘Breaking’ Them
Love is Blind alums call out Netflix’s “traumatic” show and accuse producers of “breaking” them. They feel like the show took things way too far and that things should change before another season. Keep reading to find out more.
Love Is Blind Contestant Truth
The popular Netflix reality show Love Is Blind has recently been in the hot seat after former contestants shared disturbing details about their traumatic experiences during filming. The show centers around single people searching for their ideal match without meeting in person. It has gotten a lot of attention not just for its unique take on finding love but also for the emotional toll it takes on its participants. Nick Thompson, a former contestant from Season 2, has been one of the most vocal critics. He recalls how the pods’ emotionally intense environment left contestants with no support. Thompson said the conditions were so harsh that they “Literally ruin lives.” Nick married a fellow contestant named Danielle Ruhl on the show, only for their marriage to end in divorce.
Nick’s comments reflect a broader issue of emotional distress many contestants seem to have experienced during the show. Since Nick, several anonymous contestants have come forward to describe the horrible conditions behind the scenes. They detailed how they were required to film for up to 20 hours a day for two weeks. The amount of hours the contestants had to work each day caused extreme sleep deprivation. The isolation during filming was also a key concern. Contestants were reportedly discouraged from interacting with the production crew as well as from offering emotional support to one another. One former production assistant described this environment as having a “cult vibe”, where isolation and emotional strain were prioritized over contestants well being.
Mental And Physical Toll Of The Experience
Danielle Drouin, a former contestant from Season 1, also weighed in on the mental and physical toll of the experience. Drouin spoke about the sleep deprivation contestants endured, claiming it was an intentional tactic used to break them down emotionally. This level of emotional manipulation is not only on Love Is Blind; similar accusations have been made by contestants on other shows such as The Bachelor and Big Brother. Briana Holmes, a mental health therapist who appeared on Love Is Blind, stressed the importance of mental health support and regular check-ins for contestants.
Especially considering the trauma many may have faced while being on the show. Although these claims may be alarming, Netflix has not issued an official statement on the matter. Kinetic Content, the show’s production company, has defended its practices, stating that the well-being of all contestants is the top priority and they have extreme protocols in place to ensure that contestants are getting the car that they need during filming.

As Love Is Blind Season 8 approaches its debut on February 14, 2025, these accusations raise important concerns about the responsibilities of the show. The show should safeguard the mental health of its contestants and do better. How do you feel about the contestants speaking up? Should Netflix cancel the show altogether?
