‘Jeopardy!’ Player Talks About ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Appearance
It is not rare for some people to appear on multiple game shows. However, many people usually stick with one type of show. That was not true for a recent Jeopardy! player, who said that this wasn’t his first game show appearance. He said that he appeared a few years back on Wheel of Fortune, although that wasn’t an easy gig to land.
Here is what the player told Ken Jennings and how he knew his dreams wouldn’t be realized until he appeared on Jeopardy!
Jeopardy! Player Talks Wheel Of Fortune Appearance
Sam Nguyen appeared on Jeopardy! this season, but this wasn’t his first appearance on a game show. In fact, he earlier was a contestant on Wheel of Fortune. However, he almost didn’t make it onto that show because all he could talk about was his dream of appearing on Jeopardy!
According to Sam, he had a chance to appear on Wheel of Fortune in 2019. When he was trying out for the show, he let it slip that his favorite game show was Jeopardy! and that his dream was to be on that show. He also told the casting people that he was a bigger fan of Jeopardy! than of Wheel of Fortune.
“in a room full of Wheel of Fortune enthusiasts. It didn’t go over well,” Sam said (via The U.S. Sun). He said that he was able to save himself when someone asked if he had ever been on Jeopardy! “I said ‘no but after I get on Wheel of Fortune I’ll go on Jeopardy! next.’ As my friend says, joke about the outcomes you want.”
That helped to square things up, and Sam ended up as a contestant on Wheel of Fortune on January 9, 2019. He finished in second place with $13,550 (a contestant named Wendy won with $19,350, but then she lost the Bonus Round). As for his dream of Jeopardy!, Sam also finished in second place with $4,001.
Other Jeopardy! Contestants With Other Appearances On Game Shows
The most famous name to appear on more than one game show is none other than host Ken Jennings. On Jeopardy!, Ken had the highest earnings of any American game show thanks to his 74 consecutive wins. Ken also appeared on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, The $25,000 Pyramid, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and several other quiz shows.
There is also someone heading into this year’s Tournament of Champions who had previous experience competing for money on TV. While it wasn’t a game show, Drew Basile was part of the Survivor cast before showing up on Jeopardy!
