Penn State Ends Jason Kelce Investigation After Fan Confrontation
Jason Kelce got into trouble at a Penn State game when he got into an altercation with a heckler. He apologized for his aggressive actions, but the Penn State University police were still investigating the case. However, it seems that they have wrapped up the investigation and determined any actions they might take against Kelce.
Here is what happened in the altercation and what the Penn State University Police learned.
Jason Kelce Smashed Heckler’s Phone At Football Game
At the start of November, Jason Kelce attended the Penn State Nittany Lions and Ohio State Buckeyes college football game. He was there with ESPN, working as part of the College Gameday telecast. However, while he was there working for ESPN, he ended up getting into an altercation with a fan at the game who heckled him.
A person recording the video on their phone asked for a fist bump and seemed kind enough. However, the video picked up something else. Someone yelled, “Hey Kelce, how does it feel knowing your brother is a f** dating Taylor Swift?” Jason lost it. He turned, went to someone wearing a Penn State hoodie, grabbed their phone, and smashed it.
Jason reportedly said, “Who’s the f****** f** now?”
While defending his brother and his brother’s girlfriend, Jason realized it wasn’t the right thing to do. During the November 4 episode of ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown, he responded, “I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it. Within a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I don’t think that’s a productive thing. I don’t think it leads to discourse.”
Despite the apology, a criminal case was still opened because it was considered an attack on a person.
Penn State University Police Close Case Against Jason Kelce
A spokeswoman for Penn State University Police said that the case was closed (via TMZ Sports). “The individual in the video footage circulating on social media has not been identified, and no one has come forward to University Police with a related complaint about damage to personal property.”
Jason, 37, was being investigated by the Penn State University Police for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct as potential violations. However, the victim never came forward, and no one stepped up to identify him.
Jason spoke about all this again on his New Heights podcast with Travis Kelce. “I’m not happy about the situation. Me reacting gave him the time of day and it also gave the situation notoriety. That’s what I regret. It didn’t deserve attention, it’s really stupid. And if I just keep walking it’s a nothing burger, nobody sees it. Now it’s out there and it just perpetuates more hate.”
