Will ‘Arcane: League Of Legends’ Return For Season 3?
Arcane: League of Legends wrapped up its second season back in November. However, some fans are still left wanting more of the animated series. However, fans recently got an update on whether or not the series would be getting a third season.
Arcane: League Of Legends Starts Off As A Tale Of Two Sisters
Arcane: League of Legends, also known as Arcane, is an adult animated steampunk action-adventure series distributed by Netflix. The story revolves around two sisters, Vi, or Violet, and Powder, or Jinx, who find themselves in the middle of a conflict between the utopian city of Piltover and its underbelly, Zaun.
Based on Riot’s League of Legends, the series was originally slated for an initial two seasons. However, with the second season proving popular on social media, many fans are left wondering if there will be a third season after all.
As previously reported, back in 2021, fans were concerned there would even be a second season around the time the first season was dropped. In the end, fans got the second season they were hoping for.
That said, a third season might be another story. Marc Merrill, one of Riot Games’ co-founders, recently turned to Reddit to address fans’ hopes for Season 3.
The post opened up by pointing out, “Arcane was always written to be two seasons.” However, Merrill acknowledged a possible reason for this confusion.
Marc Merrill Also Talked About How Much It Costs To Make The Series
As the post continued, “The confusion is because internally there was a budget conversation about ‘approving 5 seasons’ – which simply means we were setting aside a bunch of money for lots of development and is completely irrelevant to the Arcane creative. The creative and making something great is what the priority should always be for Riot and our teams.”
“We have also always envisioned telling more stories and continuing to expand the universe. That hasn’t ever changed – people just jump at rumors or misleading headlines and Riot didn’t correct them – but given those rumors gained momentum, happy to clarify.”
Merrill continued that, despite Riot’s intent, it wasn’t necessarily easy to tell these stories. Addressing rumors of how much it costs to produce the series, Merrill also commented that “the cost per minute of Arcane is about 1/3 to 1/4 of what Illumination / Pixar films cost.”
Ending on a more jovial note, Merrill also clarified the spelling of his first name. As he wrote, “And you spell my name with a ‘C.’”
As The Daily Star noted, the news isn’t necessarily bad for fans. With plans for different spin-offs in development, the publication suggested a whole Riot cinematic universe could be in-development.
