Chip and Joanna Gaines Take Chance On Non-Restoration Shows
Chip and Joanna Gaines have made their names working on home restoration shows. Fixer Upper is one of the most popular TV shows about home restoration. However, the couple is trying to expand their empire by thinking outside the box. The two are now producing shows that have nothing to do with their niche for Max.
Here is what the Gaines couple are doing as they try to make more family-friendly programming for fans.
Chip And Joanna Gaines Working On New Max Shows
Chip and Joanna Gaines are stepping outside their comfort zone to create more family-friendly shows for Max’s streaming service. This includes game shows and more, differentiating the new shows from what they have done on their own Magnolia Network.
When discussing the new shows, the couple said they wanted to “create a space for families to be able to watch together” (via Variety). “Knowing that we’ve got five kiddos, and just the way that people operate these days with their devices — everyone’s always doing something in their own space, in their own time. And we just thought, hey, what if we made content that brought people together?”
The shows include some very interesting titles that might shock some of the Gaines’ fans who are used to seeing them remodeling houses. These new shows include Roller Jam, which just finished its first season. Human vs. Hamster premiered on November 21. Second Chance Stage premiered on Thanksgiving. Finally, Back to the Frontier arrives in 2025.
“We really want these four shows to stand on their own two feet. If they make it, and the Max universe adapts to it and appreciates it and wants more of it, then we want to make more of it,” Chip said.
Chip Gaines Came Up With One Game Thanks To Jason Kelce
What might surprise some fans is that Chip Gaines came up with the idea for Human vs. Hamster when he saw Jason Kelce take his shirt off in the box seats and cheer his brother on during a Kansas City Chiefs game.
Chip watched the moment and immediately became inspired to create a show in which humans take on tasks that hamsters are naturally skilled at. Chip said he wished he was furrier when he saw Jason remove his shirt. That somehow led to the idea of the game show with the hamsters.
This is also just the start. Chip said that they have more big ideas for the future. “Jo and I think there’s something new around the corner. We’re experimenting with what exactly that might be.”
