Anderson Cooper Hit During Hurricane Milton Coverage
While live on air for CNN, broadcast journalist Anderson Cooper was hit by debris while reporting on Hurricane Milton in Florida. Many viewers were left wondering why Cooper was needed on the scene when remote cameras could have been used. On social media, a few people commented that Cooper is no stranger to covering dangerous events firsthand.
Cooper Was Hit By Debris Mid-Sentence
This incident took place this past Wednesday, October 9. Cooper was in Florida while providing live coverage of the storm.
Explaining the scene to viewers, Cooper reported, “The water now is really starting to pour over.” He continued, “If you look at the ground, whoa -,” before being hit by the debris.
Regaining composure, Cooper shared, “Okay, that wasn’t good.” He continued, “Um, we’ll probably go inside shortly, but you can see the amount of water here on the ground. This is water from the Manatee River.”
As noted by People, CNN anchor Kaitlin Collins assured viewers that Cooper was alright. As she reported, “I do want to note for everyone watching who is very concerned obviously about all of our correspondents and anchors on the ground, Anderson is okay.”
Cooper’s Fans Assured This Was Nothing New For Him
As Collins explained, “Just obviously understandably difficult to establish a connection when you’re seeing what’s happening with the wind and the rain.” She continued, “And obviously the deteriorating conditions by the minute.”
CNN also posted video footage of the incident on YouTube. At the time, many commenters asked why a reporter was needed to cover the storm firsthand when remote cameras could have been used instead.
On social media, however, many noted that facing dangerous situations wasn’t anything new for Cooper. As one user wrote on X, “Anybody who thinks CNN *made* Anderson Cooper do this definitely wasn’t alive and aware of current events in the era where the tighter the black t-shirt he was wearing, the bigger the disaster. Dude clearly lives for this kind of thing and doesn’t get to do it much anymore.”
Another wrote that, “Anyone worried for Anderson Cooper’s safety clearly wasn’t a junior high student in the ’90s. Every week he braved a new danger zone on behalf of us, the impressionable viewers of Channel One. He lives for this stuff.”
