‘Today’ Carson Daly’s ‘Selfish’ Thoughts On Hoda Kotb Leaving
When Hoda Kotb announced she was leaving Today, even her colleagues were surprised. While she said she spoke to some of her co-hosts, many others were shocked by her decision. One of these colleagues, Carson Daly, has announced his thoughts on her leaving, and he said his feelings are all “selfishlessly” motivated.
Here is what Daly said about Hoda’s decision to leave Today.
Carson Daly On Hoda Kotb’s Today Departure
Carson Daly hosted the Project Healthy Minds Gala on Thursday, and he spoke briefly at the event about Hoda Kotb’s decision to leave Today. He said isn’t happy about Hoda leaving, although he is happy that she is doing what she feels is best for herself.
“Selfishly, when she does eventually go, I won’t be able to see her every day. That’s the first thing,” Days said (via PEOPLE). He adds that “when you love somebody… it is such a family. It can’t be faked.”
Carson also echoed Hoda’s comments about how hard it is to get up that early every day for work. He said it is very important to “like the people you work with ” when going to work at that hour. That is how he feels about Hoda, saying that working with her makes it more “enjoyable.”
“Then my second thought was just being so happy for her that she’s made a decision that’s better for her and her family and her life moving forward,” Carson said. “So yeah, she’s the best.”
Carson Daly Talks Hoda Kotb’s Replacement
When asked about Hoda Kotb’s replacement, Carson Daly said he wasn’t sure who would fit that role. However, he also said that “there’s quite a lot of time for that.” He said now is only the time to celebrate her, and they are glad she is still in the building.
Carson Daly and Hoda Kotb have worked together since Daly joined the show in 2013 as a social media correspondent. He now serves as a co-host and features anchor. Hoda joined Today in 2007 and became the co-anchor with Kathie Lee Gifford and now Savannah Guthrie.
Al Roker echoed Carson Daly’s comments, saying he is very happy for Hoda as she moves on and starts a new era in her life. “Will I miss her day to day? Sure. But I’m just so thrilled for her that I can’t possibly feel any sadness,” Al said.
As for who could replace Hoda, one thought was that people like Carson Daly could rotate with the other hosts. However, more likely, there will be a new co-host with Laura Jarrett, the current co-anchor of the Today coverage on Saturdays.

The network really should replace, Savannah Guthrie!!! My thoughts are that they should have taken a poll. I believe replacing Savannah would have been the viewers choice. Does anyone know why Savannah wears those gigantic bows in her hair? She looks ridiculous! She should wear a smaller bow. She’s over 50! She looks like the little girl from the Morton’s Salt box and that can’t be the look she’s going for at 50. Maybe, just maybe she should shut up sometimes and not always try to have the last word, be the most clever, steal another hosts sentence right out of their mouth, etc. Last but not least, Savannah should tone it down a bit when she’s talking to Laura Jarrett. Savannah comes across as an “ass”. After all, so what that she’s also an attorney. It doesn’t mean she’s the brightest…she needs to not be so condescending. She can be replaced…oh I wish!
