Lisa Marie was the only child of the iconic Elvis Presley. She was a singer in her own right, but her talent was often overshadowed by her father and her love life. She was married to Michael Jackson from 1994 until 1996.
The singer/songwriter also had a brief marriage to actor Nicolas Cage in the early 2000s. Before she was married to Michael Jackson, Lisa Marie Presley was married to Danny Keough from 1988 until 1994. They had two children together: Riley and Benjamin. Lisa Marie Presley also welcomed twins in 2008 with her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood.
Her oldest son, Ben, passed away in 2020 from suicide. He had struggled with mental health and addiction for years prior to his death. Lisa Marie Presley opened up about the heartbreaking loss in her memoir. The book wasn’t finished when she passed away in 2023 at just 54, so her oldest daughter, Riley, finished it.
“From Here to the Great Unknown” hit bookshelves on October 8 and it had a few shocking revelations. According to Page Six, Riley revealed that she and her mother went through Ben’s phone after his death. They discovered a heartbreaking text that was sent just weeks before his suicide. Lisa Marie had a tattoo artist come to the house to see her late son so she could get identical ink.
“We found a text sent to my mom a couple of weeks before he died that read, ‘I think something’s wrong with me mentally or something like that. I think I have a mental health issue.’ It’s heartbreaking to me that he only realized he might need help just two weeks before he killed himself,” the actress wrote in her mother’s memoir.

Lisa Marie Presley struggled with her son’s death, but put on a brave face for her remaining children. She revealed in the book just how difficult it was for her. According to her memoir, Ben’s body was kept in Lisa Marie’s house for two months after he died.

She reportedly kept him in a special room that was set to 55 degrees to preserve the body. But it wasn’t just struggling to accept his death. She was torn between burying her oldest son in Hawaii or at Graceland where Elvis is buried. Ben was ultimately buried at Graceland, where Lisa Marie was buried after her death, too.
