Doctor Connected To Matthew Perry’s Death Pleads Guilty

October marks a year since Friends star, Matthew Perry sadly passed away at the age of 54 years old. September 2024 marked thirty years since the hit sitcom premiered but it was bittersweet. Supposedly, the cast had planned to honor the milestone together but that would never come to fruition. They did come together for the Friends Reunion which aired on MAX but this would have been something really special. Matthew drowned in his jacuzzi but there was more to the story. Ketamine was found in his system as he had been getting infusion therapy for anxiety and depression.

However, it was concluded that the ketamine in his system before he passed was not legally prescribed. That was when the real work and investigation began. Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, who was close with Matthew, became involved. Her electronic devices were seized though she was very cooperative. The “Ketamine Queen” aka Javeen Sangha, was arrested as were Dr. Salvador Plasencia, Erik Fleming, and Kenneth Iwamasa. This happened in August and now, Dr. Mark Chavez has pleaded guilty after initially taking a plea deal.

According to In Touch Weekly, Dr. Chavez is facing up to a decade behind bars. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine. As of now, he will next appear in court on April 2, 2025, for his sentencing and is free on a $50K bond. He cannot practice medicine and has no passport so he cannot flee the country. Matthew Binninger initially said this when Dr. Chavez accepted the plea deal:

“He’s incredibly remorseful, not just because it happened to Matthew Perry, but because it happened to a patient. He’s trying to do everything in his power to right the wrong that happened here. He didn’t accept responsibility today, but only because it wasn’t on the calendar.”

Selling To The Wrong Person

Again, when Dr. Mark Chavez took his plea deal, he said a lot of different things. One was that he sold the ketamine to Dr. Salvador Plasencia. Dr. Plasencia had very little experience with ketamine and Chavez knew this, per the prosecution. Now, Matthew Perry’s fans, family, loved ones, and followers will just have to wait six months for Chavez’s sentencing. This will never bring him back but hopefully, it will help raise awareness.

Are you shocked that Dr. Chavez is free and won’t be sentenced for six more months? More so, does it bother you he will only get a max of ten years? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
