Rugby Player Ilona Maher Shares Her Vulnerable Side With Her Fans
Ilona Maher already earned a plethora of fans during the Olympics. But now that she’s on Dancing With The Stars, she’s also become a fierce mental health advocate. After her latest social media video, more people love her than ever before.
“Can I be vulnerable for a minute?” Ilona asked on Instagram. She attached a video of herself in a cute blue bikini as she described her mental health struggles to her audience.
“You know I like to keep it real with you all, so I wanted to just let you know that I’m not feeling too body-confident right now,” the Rugby player shares with her followers. “But that’s OK, that’s OK, and I know you all are going to hype me up, I know you’re going to hype me up, but just remember the mind be playing tricks, it be telling you different things.”
But thankfully, Ilona has a list of positive affirmations she reminds herself of when she doesn’t feel her best.
- Remember how strong your body is and what it can do for you
- Bodies are constantly changing and that’s alright
- Show yourself grace and compassion
“Take a breath, remind yourself you’re beautiful, it’s OK if you’re going through these. It’s going to be ups and downs for the rest of your life,” Ilona concluded the video.
