Barbra Streisand Talks First Time Seeing Kris Kristofferson
After his recent passing, singer Barbra Streisand talked about Kris Kristofferson, who she had worked with in A Star Is Born. Taking to social media, she talked about the first time she saw him. The singer even shared a more recent reunion between the two during the post.
Streisand Knew Kristofferson Was Perfect For A Star Is Born
Kristofferson won a Golden Globe for his performance as rocker John Norman Howard in A Star Is Born. The 1976 film, a remake of a 1937 film of the same name, paired him with Streisand as Esther Hoffman. The song, “Evergreen,” which Streisand mentioned in the post, also earned the film an Oscar for Best Original Song.
Streisand shared how she first saw Kristofferson on Instagram. She included two photos in the post. The first was a promotional image featuring the two of them together for A Star Is Born. The second was a more recent photo of the two together.. As she wrote, Kristofferson was playing at a club when he caught her interest.
The singer wrote in the caption, “The first time I saw Kris performing at the Troubadour club in L.A. I knew he was something special. Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the perfect choice for a script I was developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born.” She continued, “In the movie, Kris and I sang the song I’d written for the film’s main love theme, ‘Evergreen.'”
Kristofferson’s Family Has Asked For Privacy At This Time
Streisand also mentioned a time she reunited with Kristofferson a few years back. She added, “For my latest concert in 2019 at London’s Hyde Park, I asked Kris to join me on-stage to sing our other A Star Is Born duet, ‘Lost Inside Of You.’ He was as charming as ever, and the audience showered him with applause. It was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved.”
The caption ended with Streisand offering her condolences to Kristofferson’s spouse, Lisa. As she wrote, “My thoughts go to Kris’ wife, Lisa who I know supported him in every way possible.”

Asking for privacy at this time, the family also shared a statement on Instagram. It read: ““It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home. We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.”
Kristofferson passed away on September 28, 2024. As noted by Deadline, his family said he was surrounded by loved ones in his Hawaiian home. At this time, no cause of death has been announced.

Deadline also noted a few other performers have paid their respects to Kristofferson, sharing their condolences on social media. These have included Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Melissa Etheridge and LeAnn Rimes.
