Diddy Placed On Suicide Watch Claims ‘I’m Not Suicidal’
Rapper and record executive Sean Love Combs, also known by the stage name Diddy, has been placed on suicide watch. The music mogul is currently being held at New York City’s Metropolitan Detention Center. However, his attorney denied he was suicidal.
The Suicide Watch Is Believed To Be A Routine Measure
In a statement with TMZ, Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo has said that the suicide watch directive was just part of the center’s protocol.
Agnifilo also claimed to have spent six hours with Diddy while at the federal lockup.
As the publication noted, Agnifilo claimed he was “not at all suicidal.” He continued that he was “strong, healthy, confident and focused on his defense.”
People also commented that the U.S Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections uses the suicide watch as a “supervisory [precaution] taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation.”
Diddy had been arrested Monday night in Manhattan, with a federal grand jury indicting him on various charges. These include sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to participate in prostitution. The musician has since been held in custody.
There Is Concern Over The Safety Of The Center
At this time, two judges have denied Combs’ bail requests, allegedly siding with federal prosecutors, claiming he tampered with witnesses and could pose a threat to the community.
During his last bail hearing, Agnifilo had previously asked the court to transfer Diddy to another facility, the Essex County Correctional Facility, in Newark, New Jersey.
TMZ previously reported that Agnifilo was hoping to get Diddy’s case to trial as soon as possible in the hopes of shortening the time he would spend behind bars.
At the time, he was noted for calling the NYC center’s condition “inhumane.” That said, he assured that Diddy was “focused” and “ready” for the trial.
The Daily Beast also noted that Diddy’s legal team claimed “several courts in this District have recognized that the conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center are not fit for pre-trial detention.” As they continued, “Just earlier this summer, an inmate was murdered.” They added, “At least four inmates have died by suicide there in the past three years.”
In a statement with CNN, Agnifilo said “I’m not going to let him sit in that jail a day longer than he has to.” He also commented that Diddy is “a stoic guy in his manner. He’s been through a lot in his life.”
During the interview, Agnifilo also noted that, “I’ve been doing this for a while. This is not my first or hundredth rodeo.”
Another conference hearing is expected for Diddy on September 24.
